Icelandic Dressage Prospect? ~
~ It's hard to believe Midnight is an Icelandic pony after getting her coat shave and her luxiour lion mane painstakingly pulled. Now she looks like a proper sport pony! I've started to have suspicion that she might be a mix. Walt & Midnight have been on their A-game lately, Midnight's been more responsive, and has an extra kick now. Eh, probably because she lost 30% of her body mass after getting a good groom, she probably feels fresh! Burt's been helping Walt out with doing more flatwork with the little blue roan mare, and she's been moving better! It's been just flatwork, flatwork, flatwork, with the two and Walt's really itching to get back to jumping her. However, we've advised him to wait a little before jumping her again whilst she settles into her new home. Though, now looking at it... I think the two need to work on their leads a bit more... ~
Riding a Crap ton of Horses(kind of)~EYEC Talmont One of the first horses I rode yesterday was my mate, Lynwood's, KWPN mare, Talmont. She's one of his dressage mares, and she's quite a looker. Genetically, Tally is a plain old bay, but she was born with this really unique facial marking, where her blaze extends over the side of her face. I supposed technically she would be presenting as a pinto because of the marking, but she has no gene's saying that she is. Tally is a sweet mare, not pushy in the slightest, and is a very nice ride, though she's not really my type. She's got a slow smooth movement, and for me I find it difficult to get I feel for her, since I'm used to riding really head-strong horses where you can pretty much feel every movement of the horse. Pretty certain it's a dressage thing, but I'm just learning dressage so I'm a newbie. Nonetheless, she's a nice mare, Woody will hopefully be getting her into shows soon, as I'm sure she'll do fantastic! ~
EYEC First Class Flight Another horse I rode was this fun little Oldenburg gelding, known as Mowgly around the stables. He's spunky little show jumper, and he's a super fun ride. I was only jumping him about one metre at the time, but he can easily clear 1.20. Mowgly likes to be ridden a very specific way or else he will not do anything and is a total wimp. In a very watered-down summary, he's a very close-contact horse. He likes to know that he has a rider with him, and is there to work with him and he'll be off. He's a very fast horse, and tends to be a little spooky, like mentioned before. Riding him incorrectly feels like riding a newly-off the track three year old, he's all rushy and antsy. Though, once Mowgly is confident he's got this lovely balance to him and is totally push button and never refuses a jump. Around the stables he's very sweet and friendly, my daughter describing him to have "puppy eyes." He will do absolutely anything for treats. I.e. eating a treat out of my pocket when I was mucking out his stall. Though he is a great horse, I don't know if I will be showing him, I'm a bit too big for him (as I am with most horses- being tall is a curse in the equine world.) I'll be looking into hiring some more riders now that we're at this new stables and hopefully Mowgly will have a partner soon enough! ~
EYEC Warwick Saved the best for last. This is my new horse, Warwick, he's a 5 year old hanoverian gelding and when I saw this horse I'm pretty sure I fell in love instantly. I've never been a big fan of black horses, but for god knows why, he stole my heart. I was pretty disappointed to find out he was a gelding, only to learn he looks so much like a stallion because he had "lost his manhood" as a late 3-year-old. To my dismay, there will never be any Warwick babies. Warwick is my new eventer, and he is a total powerhouse of a horse. He's an insanely strong and powerful horse, with a great head on his shoulders. He never spooks and I'm pretty sure he'd square up to pretty much anything. Warwick certainly doesn't look much like an eventer, he does have the very dressage-esc build to him, but I can assure you he clear jumps as if they were nothing. He's just a total dreamboat of a horse. Too bad he's a gelding. (I cry myself to sleep now) He's a little pushy around other, but he's gotten along well with me- though he's had his moments. I am so showing him in the ESEF show season and I am insanely confident for this horse, I think he'll be a show stopper. It's pretty much my responsibility to not screw up! ~
Thanks For Reading/Viewing! Cheers!

I find that interesting because we aren't close to a beach at all (and a good portion of us here burn when in contact with sunlight) I appreciate the offer for Mowgly, though I think we'll have to stay with more local riders at the moment and hopefully Warwick will be good in a show ring, I've yet to show him myself! Talmont definitely has an unique marking, she's really beautiful, as Mowgly, I just fell in love with him ♥ Thank you! It seems that'll be a common theme with Mowgly! I'm just gonna move in now, k? New Rider Interview ~ Just by sheer luck, we already got a chance to interview and evaluate a new rider for English Yew. It's pretty amusing hearing how she found out about us without us even putting an advertisement out. What happened was on wednesday when my husband was out at the shop, she saw him and noticed he was wearing paddock boots and apparently where she's from male riders aren't very common so, she pretty much tried hitting on Burton, they chatted and somehow the topic of looking for a career in equine stuff came up, and that's when she got Burt's number for an interview. (thank god it was for an interview). The girls name is Aubrey, she's a 21 year old from California who had moved to England to live with a friend from what I remember. Her parents own a big stables out in California, and she's been with horses her whole life, having started as a show hunt and pleasure rider, having recently converted to eventing. Conveniently she lives in a village right down the street from us and had absolutely no clue that the big gaited off property was a stables! She had her interview on Thursday, and I was in charge of it, as I was giving her a walk around the facility we had a little chat and we've hit it off. She was really looking forward for the potential job position, having really wanted to go back to riding, as she couldn't afford a horse of her own after moving. After that little chat and tour, we went out to the mare pasture to get a little 11 year old arabian mare, named Aria. Aubrey's short, so it would work out fine. "Y'know, I'm really frustrated about the fact the saddle pad just almost matches your breeches" I informed her after they were all tacked up and we were heading to the arena. "then text me whatever colour saddle pad the horse wears and I'll be sure to match," she joked. Needless to say, we got along pretty well. ~
~ "Okay, so a couple rules of the arena before we get moving," I started once she got mounted on Aria. "Stay out of the grass, that should be self explanatory, we don't want any horses getting into that habit. secondly, at the moment you'll always be travelling on the inside of the blue oxer, since its to tight to fit between it and the grass. and just in general pay attention to everything, since it's not a closed arena. You shouldn't have any troubles on Aria, but you never know." I explained. "Sounds easy enough," She said. "good, now go ahead and get her warmed up and get a feel for her, I'll leave you to do whatever you feels works, i'll only step in if needed," I explained, going and sitting on the mounting block. She went ahead and started tracking left around the arena at a working walk."I am going to take some video here and there to show to my husband, since he has more authority than I do," She nodded. "I said this to your husband, I don't know if you told you, but I haven't ridden since moving here a few months ago, so I apologise in advance if I'm sloppy. I can't really afford lessons right now," she told me, shortening her reins. "bah' that's fine. I'm not a stickler for equitation, I'm a show jumper / former jockey, I barely know what equitation is," I joked. "All I really care about is that you know what you're doing, if you're balance, if you're working with the horse and not against them, and if you're heels are down." "Oh wow, that's lenient," She said. "I started as an eq rider so my instructor would probably murder me if I looked sloppy." being the idiot I am, she had to explain what an Eq rider was because I know nothing about British or American show hunting. "So, thought's on Aria so far?"I asked as she did some circles around the ring. "I like her so far, she feels really smooth," She told me. "Sweet, so can you pick up the trot?" I asked, sitting back. She nodded, got back to the rail and picked up the trot, going right into the correct posting. I complimented her on that since I suck at getting my posting right on first try. "So, while you're trotting her, about how high do you jump currently?" I asked. "Three foot / once metre, " She told me, continuing to trot the little arab. "Okay, I won't have you jump her one metre much, since she can't jump that high very easily. Just so you're aware that I'm not making you jump small because I don't think you can't jump, it's just for the pony's sake," I explained. "No, no, that's totally fine! I understand that. I actually really like her so far! she has a very rhythmic trot, she definitely feels like an arabian," She told me smiling. "That's a relief, I'd hope our only arabian feels like an arabian. Could you change directions down the vertical and do a lap tracking right?" She nodded and did as told turing in the top corner. "While you're going down the vertical please extend the trot," I asked. She did as told, getting Aria to extend her reach and she stretched her neck down through it. "Lovely job getting her to work off her hind quarters, that's exactly what we want out of her! She has a little issue with working through her shoulder, so sorry about making you have to deal with that." I wasn't going to bother with Aria dropping her head for the time being. "Collect the trot once again once you're back on the rail." She did as told. One of the first things I was noticing it that she was very "perched" really staying out of Aria's way as she was doing her work. "Now can you pick up the right lead at E and once you do one lap around turn into the centre and change direction and leads," I asked after she did one more lap of trot. Her transition into the canter was a bit sloppy, she didn't quite sit enough to pick up the canter to for a couple strides she had a very rushy trot, but she managed to correct it. When she went and did her lead change at X it went quite well, she gave Aria a good nudge and got her to do a dramatic lead change with a little buck at the end. "That was a bit rude, Aria," I said as she continued to canter. "you can have a little walk break once you're done with the lap." I proceeded to text Burton my thoughts on her so far. "She has a really choppy canter!" She called out form the bottom of the ring. "I know!" I shouted back. probably shouldn't have been shouting, but it's a big arena so give me a break. After the break, I had her pop Aria over a few little jump, when she went over a metre jump I was quick to realise a huge pet-peeve of mine. "Just going to say this right now, that two-point needs a lot of work." I told her. She looked. "You've got a bad case of 'modern show jumper' position, your heels are up in the air and you're just throwing your hands away. That position is a little more acceptable if you're jumping like a 1.60 jump, but that's a totally different scenario. but we're jumping over a little metre jump. It's not your fault, but I wanna see you try that jump again, but really try and get your heels down and don't throw the reins over her ears she doesn't need that much release over such a small jump." I just wanted to see if she could try and fix it here, to prove if that was going to be a problem or easy fix. She did a circle, giving Aria a good kick to speed up her canter and approached the jump once more. "Sit back, shoulder's back, eyes up, and keep that heel down! you don't need to look at the ground to count strides" I instructed. Aria sped towards the jump with choppy strides, Aubrey seemed a bit anxious approaching. The jump was cut in deep, but Aria pinged over it. Aubrey managed to keep her heels down, though she did put her arms a little to far ahead, she looked significantly better in her back by just that small change. "Much better! I think we can call it a wrap!" I said. She pulled Aria down to the walk and gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Go ahead and cool her off; but what do you think?" I asked "I like her, she's a nice mare," she said. "I thought the ride went good, I hope." "it did, there's still thing's that need improving, but I think we can work something out. I'll have to go over this with Burton and everything, he might want to have you come back and do another evaluation on a different horse, since Aria is more of a beginner ride. Though, I definitely can see you becoming a part of our team." I said getting up. "Once we're back at the stables I'll give you my number to contact me, though Burt's a lot easier to get ahold of," I explained. "Sounds good! Thank you so much for the opportunity!" She said. "Its no problem at all, since we're kind of neighbours, we're open to help you out with anything, since we're 'natives'" I joked. "Yeah! sounds great, thank you again!" She said smiling. With that, we wrapped it up and went back to get Aria untacked and hosed off. I took care of all the tack cleaning, and let her leave after I gave her my number. Now, we wait to see what boss man says. ~
Baby Stepsoh hey, there's the boss man! ~ Most people are unaware, but almost exactly a year ago Walt and I were off at a clinic for the weekend, and Burt had to take care of pretty much everything with Winfred and Lynwood. Though, worse case scenario happened and Burton had a serious injury on our late horse, Saturday. Burton had practically snapped his right leg in half, and since at the time only Winfred was around he wasn't found till the next morning. Worst yet, we had to wait a day after I got back to get him to the hospital because of a massive storm that was heading over. It was the worst case of bad luck that's I've ever witnessed. Burton was expected to have permenant issues with walking, or potentially never walking again. Going back to horseback riding was completely out of the question. But ever since Burt got his cast off a couple months ago he's been really working on getting the strength back into his leg again, and he's already back in saddle, albeit only walking and trotting. Though, we had a bit of a break through when Burt was riding our mare, Ally. ~ "Marquis I know damn well how to jump, you don't need to tell me," He said as he trotted the flaxen chestnut. "Just looking out for you," I told him. "hush up," He said trotting towards a 60cm crossrail. I leaned against a jump standard and watched him. Ally lifted her head and sped into the canter two strides before the jump and my heart skipped a beat and I was ready to go and catch Burt off the horse, but he sat back and went over the jump like it was nothing. I felt relief and couldn't help but smile like an idiot. Burton, of course, looking serious as if he had't just jumped for the first time in a year while still having a sore leg. ~
~ "Burty you're gonna make me cry!" I said, fully meaning it, I was 100% tearing up over there. "What why?" He asked, woahing Ally to the walk. "Why? Burton you weren't suppose to be able to walk a year ago, and you just jumped like it was nothing!" I told him, in shock at his nonchalant attitude. "You're too sentimental," He said snickering. "Too sentimental my arse, you're just too modest,"I said, wiping my eyes. "I didn't even get into a proper half-seat," He said. "SO? Burton you've come so far after your injury! You can be - and should- be proud of what you did! You even cantered like it was nothing! Getting the two-point is a feat for another day! I'm proud of you and you can't do anything to make me not," I said, crossing my arms. I saw him trying a hide a smile. "It's nothing," He said with a bashful shrug. "Liar," I teased. "You think I can try that jump again?" He asked. "Pff, of course, as long as this next time you do like a first pump in the air because you're so proud of yourself," I said teasingly, getting him to laugh. "You're a real drama queen y'know," He joked. "Yeh' I know, now go jump again," I told him. ~
Someone's full of Sass and it's not the boss man, it's his child ~
~ Snoopy has recently learnt that I'm the mean man that makes him do actual work. He decided he wanted to voice his opinion on me during today's ride. Luckily, no one got hurt, unluckily, Snoopy has learned how to rear. He doesn't even do the tiny little bounce rears, he does the giant rears that could lead to us falling backwards. He's currently going through that stallion phase where he thinks he's a hot shot and is in charge of everyone. He has no issue with Burton though, Burt's his favourite person in the world. However, that's because Burton only does walk/trot warm ups and cool offs, and takes him on little trail rides. I actually do schooling work on him and as you can see, he hates me because of it. Now I have this new little project to work on, and hopefully no one breaks their back in the process, ~ "Hey, Burt, your horse tried killing me today" "Good, that's what you get for your "I feel bad for you englishmen good thing I'm a frenchman,' comment you made after the game." "Fair point."
Another Horse Introduction ~
EYEC Lourmais Introducing Lourmais! also known as Lou, and LouLou. She's a 7 year old hanoverian eventing mare and shes mineeee. LouLou is the definition of a mare. She makes constant grump faces, and the only thing she cares about it getting away from any human contact and getting back into her pasture so she can boss around all the other mares. She's bombproof, does not even bat an eye. However, she has quite some sass to her. She's opinionated, but she's not stupid. She's not going to throw a big fit like a three year old stallion, but if you ride her wrong she'll let you know. LouLou is definitely a horse for an experienced rider, I wouldn't suggest anyone who has anysort of confident issues because she will pick up on those and use them with ill-intent. Though, if she has respect for you, she's great. (besides the sass, that's unavoidable.) I really want to show her, but as of right now she's not eligible for any shows and it doesn't look like they'll be much for a little while, so for now it's just schooling. It's kind of quiet on here during the summer. ~
This update was a little wordy, but if you read through it- kudos to you!
Cheers!

Magnolia Midsummer Classic Entries! ~ nothing to say about these, just felt I should include these in my scrapbook. ~ Walt Eberheardt & EYEC Silver Lining in the 1.20 class
~ Marquis Moulin & EYEC Lasting Impression also in the 1.20 class
~
EYEC Cornelo ~
~ While I was gone, I've started work with this four year old andalusian stallion, Cornelo! (hope everyone enjoys his very flashy saddle pad) I am honestly the least qualified to be working with a horse for dressage, but I've been hard at work with trying to adjust to it and do more than just show jumping. Cornelo is a big doofus, he's certainly not the smartest, but he's a powerhouse. He's a strong horse, and feels practically weightless. He's a sensitive horse and is very willing to work and learn! This photo was from our first ride in the big outdoor ring and he was lovely! There was a lot distractions out there. Right across the road is the mare field, and someone was out in the big field behind us hacking, and all of those scary jumps and bugs. However, Cornelo was certainly very looky and curios, he kept his attention with me and worked nicely. It was only a walk/trot schooling to get him used to the ring, but he'll be desensitised soon enough. Though... we have a new goal of getting a dressage ring installed...
Cornelo is the first andalusian I've ever ridden or worked with, not to mention own, and I have mixed emotion about the breed. Unsurprisingly, he is actually going to be Burton's horse and once he's completely back in good shape I'll be kicked off and he'll work with this bad boy! ~
EYEC Little Lion Man ~
~ Say hello to EYEC Little Lion Man, aka Banjo! Banjo is a 5 year old 16.3 hh appaloosa gelding, taking up the showjumping discipline. Banjo is my horse, but Walt will be showing him and riding him as well. (he talked me into this horse) This guy can jump up to 1.40, but currently is comfortably jumping at 1 metre, he needs to take some time gaining some more muscles. I got to be honest, I'm genuinely very impressed with this appaloosa, as when you think of an appy typically you think of a western horse. The thing with Banjo is he has an impressive and consistent lineage of pure appaloosas, he hasn't had any other breeds merged into his pedigree to ruin him. He's even got the charming short tail of a traditional appaloosa! This little dude is what I can best describe as - Walt if he was turned into a horse. He's friendly and good-hearted, but hes very hyperactive. He's a little fire ball. Banjo certainly has the trademark of a spunky show jumper - but he's just having fun. I think Walt and him will become great mates. Now I just gotta try and get photos of him and Walt.... ~
Two Trolls on The X-Country field ~
~ (can you tell teal is Walt's favourite colour yet?) Here's Walt and Trollet out in our cross country field! I don't have much to say about this, as I wasn't schooling him or anything, he was just out with the little fjord gelding. Walt and Trollet have been very close ever since they first met, and Trollet is willing to do anything with Walt, even if he can't jump for the life of him. Trollet isn't a jumper at all, in fact he's a dressage pony! Walt is a jumper, so for going onward Walt and Trollet don't have a career together. It doesn't change the fact they still go out on rides together. Trollet will be doing lessons pretty soon, and hopefully he'll get a rider to show, but I am okay with him staying as just a lesson horse. After all, Walt will always keep him on his toes. ~
Sorry For the delay in updates! Cheers!

I am now Trollet's #1 fan and anybody else can fight me about it. It's okay if he can't jump, Fjords are the best dancers, anyway.
