GAME GUIDE & RULES
The Equus-Sims Licensed Breeder Program is an optional gameplay experience for Equus-Sims and surrounding equestrian communities. If you’re passionate about a particular breed and want to build your reputation as a breeder, then this was made especially for you!
About the Program
The ESBP is a role-playing game where you build your reputation as a breeder, establish covetable pedigrees for your horses, and create top performers in your breed’s respective disciplines. There are currently 6 levels for you to advance through, and each level comes with its own requirements, rewards, and restrictions.
As you gain more experience, you raise your Breeder Rank, and thus, your reputation! Your ultimate goal is to reach the highest level available by earning the rare Diamond Breeder badge (which comes with amazing bragging rights!)
Program Resources:

Breeder Program Gameplay
Progression
In order to progress in the ESBP, you have to collect Breeder Points (BP) and complete the required tasks for each level. As you progress through each level, you’ll not only raise your Rank, but you’ll also unlock exciting rewards that will make your horses more profitable and desirable overall.

Revenue
For added realism, the ESBP does utilize cash play, but it’s entirely optional and available for people who enjoy more realistic gameplay. Your Breeder Rank determines how much you can sell horses for as a breeder, which increases accordingly as you raise your rank. You can also earn special awards for reaching specific revenue milestones.
Breeder Points "BP"
Breeder Points (BP) are earned by breeding and selling horses, entering your homebreds in shows, collaborating with other members, and producing titled champions. For a full breakdown of the most current ways to earn Breeder Points, please see How to Earn Breeder Points below.
Official Breeder's License
You’ll earn your official Breeder’s License once you’ve gained 300BP and your Breeder Rank has reached Level 2. Equus-Sims offers a general Breeder’s License that you can customize for yourself, but you should also check with your respective registry for their own unique Breeder’s License. For continuity's sake, please don't modify the layout of the certificates. However, you're welcome to change the colors and fonts to your liking.
Foundation Stallion or Mare
You may create or choose your foundation horse. However, regardless of what generation they are, the “generation counter” begins with the founding horse. For example, even if your founding sire has a 3rd generation pedigree, their first offspring will be considered “first generation” inside of the ESBP. This allows you flexibility in continuing your bloodlines while still enjoying the fun gameplay challenge that the ESBP offers.
[attr="class","note"]Foundation Horse Requirements:
- May be a sire or dam, any generation, from any bloodline that you have rights to
- Their breed should match the breed you’ve chosen for your breeding program
- Breeder may choose 3 Skills and 3 Personality Traits for their foundation sire or dam
Skill Points "SP"
Your horse’s skills are developed using Skill Points (SP). Skills, just like in The Sims, start at 0 and max out at 10. Each time you earn a Skill Point, you can “spend” it on one of your horse’s skills. Skill Points are earned from entering training events and competitions. Horses bred by higher-ranking Breeders will have more skills available upon birth, making them all the more desirable.
[attr="class","note"]Earning & Spending Skill Points
It’s up to you how you want to “spend” your Skill Points. Spend them all on one horse, or split them up among the ones you’re trying to prep for sale or to show. Horses with more developed skills will inherently have more value than those that have fewer, since maxed-out skills can be inherited by future offspring. While all offspring are born with Skills Points, you can earn more by doing the following:

Horses with more developed skills will inherently have more value than those that have fewer, since maxed-out skills can be inherited by future offspring. While all offspring are born with Skills Points, you can earn more by doing the following:
- Leveling up your Breeder Rank (Varies, depending on level)
- Training horses:
- Enter a training event (+2 SP per event, not per entry)
- At home training: post a photo in your album of your horse with its rider and/or instructor (+1 SP per training session, not per photo)
- Enter a training event (+2 SP per event, not per entry)
- Enter a competition (futurity, inspection, discipline) (+2 SP per show, not per entry)
- Win 1st place in a show (+1 additional SP per 1st place win)
Skills
The purpose of incorporating skills into the ESBP is to help you, the breeder, create horses that are ideal for both their respective breed and discipline(s). As you raise your Breeder Rank, you’ll unlock the options to modify, pass down, and earn “bonus” skills that give you unique perks along your journey. Find a full list of available Skills here »
[attr="class","note"]Skills & Offspring:
- Foals are born with 3 Skill Points available until your Breeder Rank reaches Level 4.
- Foal must always inherit (1) predefined Skill from each parent, however:
- If the second parent doesn’t have any skills, the foal must inherit (2) from the parent that does.
- If neither parent has skills, (2) skills must be randomized upon birth. Breeder may then choose any remaining Skill(s) for their foal.
- If the second parent doesn’t have any skills, the foal must inherit (2) from the parent that does.
- Foals may inherit between 10%-30% of maxed-out skills by their parents, depending on your Breeder Rank. If both parents have the same maxed-out skill, the foal can inherit up to 60% of that skill upon birth. That’s a huge advantage!
Personality Traits
Personality traits are here to make things interesting inside the ESBP. When your foals are born, you’ll get to choose some of their traits, but not all. Just like in The Sims, some of their traits will be randomized at birth. Don’t worry, though, experienced breeders can unlock the ability to change any undesirable traits. You can find a full list of available Traits here »
[attr="class","note"]Traits & Offspring:
- Foals are born with 3 Personality Traits until your Breeder Rank reaches Level 4.
- When a foal is born, the Breeder may choose between (1-3) Personality Traits, depending on your rank. The remaining must be randomized.
- Horses may have up to 5 Personality Traits.
Tracking Your Progress
The ESBP is a self-regulated game, meaning you’re responsible for tracking your progress. However, you aren’t entirely on your own! We’ve created some tracking tools to get you started! You'll need to create a free Notion account to use them:
Building Your Breeding Program
Your Breeder Portfolio is a place to keep records of the horses you’ve bred and that exist within your breeding program. Portfolios must be made available on our forum here. You can build your portfolio using one of our templates, or link off to third-party websites and other apps if you prefer. You can customize this to your liking, so long as your Portfolio meets these basic requirements:
[attr="class","note"]Breeder Portfolio Requirements
- Information about your program. Minimal requirements include your name, chosen breed focus, prefix/suffix, current Breeder Rank, and information about your foundation sire or dam
- A current list of all your horses bred within the program
- Trackers for Breeder Points and Program Revenue (if playing with cash)
- All horse profiles should include: Registered name, Registration Information, Personality Traits, Skills Tracker, Pedigree Chart, Training & Show Records, and Progeny list
How to Earn Breeder Points (BP)
Breeder Points may be earned in a variety of ways, with emphasis on breeding incredible horses as well as producing successful heirs within your breeding program who go on to become titled champions. For a full breakdown, visit the link below:
