Medhurst Stable Gypsies 8-4-2018
Flying Cob Cobs generally gave a 50/50 chance of either being an amazing jumper, or barely being able to take their feet off the ground. Vast majority of our Gypsy Cobs are pretty bad jumpers, since my family breeds for dressage and caravan horses. But, there are some exceptions. The most prominent example of this is our mare, Ailbhe, who's a lean grey, with a short mane. "Ally" isn't a homebred mare, she isn't related to any of our horses, nor is there much interest in breeding her with anyone. Ally was a gift from a friend of ours, and she's lovely! My cousin, Luca- who actually lives at Medhurst - is too much of a wimp to learn how to jump, so he makes me train her, and she just great. I'll do some training with Luca soon enough... ~
~ Its was a much warmer day out, and quite nice once the typical rain showers has passed. I had taken Ally out for a ride when it had cleared up in the evening. I had let her just wander around the ring as I set up some jumps for us to go over. There wasn't many options to go with, since there was only two pairs of jumps standards, five poles, and one coop. I really need to invest on better jumps for this place. The jumps were on the bigger size, but I knew it wasn't too much for her. I went to go hop up on the grand-sized gypsy, and did the usual warm up. The ground was still muddy, when isn't it honestly, and her nice white feathers got ruined after my extensive cleaning. I did my best to ignore her ruined feathers, and went to pop her over the two jumps I could set up, and she was perfect! Ally was a little hesitant with the coop at first. To be frank, she is scared of any jump that isn't just two plain white standards and random logs. However, she learned quickly that the coop wasn't going to eat her, and cleared the jumps beautifully! Though, she does have that very cob feel to her, where he strides can feel a little messy, and sometimes rushy, and the technique can be pretty shoddy- but it was effective!~

I see vanner, I upvote. Lovely lovely mare, I think Ally and my mare Cuore would get along very well with one another, always tackling jumps like nobody's business.

Show Entries!
Babes' first show! ~ Our foals recently were entered in the Easter Breeder's Showcase, and they all acted lovely! I hope you'll enjoy their entries! ~

The start to a great show season! ~
~ Here's DJ starting his first (and last) show season! My cousin, Luca, rode him for the show, and he rode him fantastically. I'm really hoping that Django places well in this show!
So, you're probably wondering what I mean by "last show season." Django's an old stallion, and he's at the age where he's ready to get fat, breed mares, and live the stud life, along with his leisure rides. Whiiiiich is pretty much what he's been doing for vast majority of his life. Luca and I agreed that Django needed to do something before he was officially "retired". Our goal is to show him in this show season, and the goal is to get him up to an olympic level. After that, he'll continue as being a stud and showing in halter shows. We really wanted Django to get a name for himself, being our main purpose in doing this. My goal is to get the Gypsy Vanner breed more prevalent on here, getting a homebred gypsy vanner to an olympic level seemed like a perfect way to start that off! After this show season is over, my hope is to focus more on his offspring in shows, and branching out from there. His son, Brishen is currently in training at the moment, so my hope with him is maybe win an olympic level show. But frankly, I'm just satisfied if the breed gets out there.
Here comes the shame(full)less self promotion! ~ So, recently I started the "Gypsy Vanner Horse Association" as an effort to keep track of the breed, and to have an accurate breed standard & registry for the breed. I suppose this is more of a thing for myself atm, since I don't think there's much interest in owning a Gypsy Vanner right now, but its still a start. But, hey, its there nonetheless! ~ Two Gypsy Vanners are for sale right now, a small caravan bred gelding, and a dressage bred black tobiano mare, by Django. (psst Vivian is also going to be up for sale soon too) I just thought I'd put that there incase anyone is in need of some fluffy ponies ~ FINALLY, I wanted some input if there is actually any interest in the breed? I would like to have a few breeding slots open for Django and Brishen, but I'm not open to out-breeding until I do some more research on it. Its pretty obvious I have an unhealthy obsession with the breed, but that's not the same for everyone else and I forgot about that. So, input on that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for dealing with my rambling! I'll have some photos from my home stables next time!
Cheers!

Thank you! (suppose that'll lead to plenty of upvotes, haha!) That'd be interesting to see! You're goddamn right--and these lovely little babies are an excellent example of the breed--to say nothing of how handsome Django is. I would also like to say that I was very happy to see that you'd taken the initiative to start up a Vanner association--even though I'm more into drums as opposed to Vanners, I do love seeing fat, feathered, colorful drafts around the community, I just wish their hair didn't take me such an abominably long time to do, to the point I've barely shown my own drafts in years, hah. If it weren't for that, I'd love to have some more Vanners in my string.

I originally thought about including drum horses in the group, the breeds are really similar, but the history of the two breeds are quite different- hence why I didn't have the two together. And yeah, manes take an eternity. (thats why I tend to take photos of the left side, so I don't have to edit on the mane)They'll certainly be plenty of horses available soon enough
