19-10-2018 Catching Up With Summer
A Bit of A Stretch ~
~ “Keep your legs on, but give him the reins as you come up to the three stride. You know how much Theo hates his mouth being yanked on,” I told Walt as he squeezed the Silver grullo into a left lead canter.
“So, its just the three stride to the one stride then go back down to the trot?” Walt asked, tapping Theodore with his heel to keep him up.
“Yup, like I said- really keep your leg on. He might refuse at the oxer if you even hit his mouth the slightest- I don’t think seeing you be thrown into a bunch of poles would be a very pleasant way to finish the combination,” I told him as I sat on the small green mounting black with a water bottle in my hand.
“A’ight!” Walt said and put his hand forward to give the stallion his mouth and he picked up the speed forward. Walt cut across the centre of the ring and made his approach to the first .90 jump. The grullo’s head raised as he lifted his shoulders towards the red and white poles. Walt tightened his calves and made Theo fly over the jump a tad bit early. Theo landed on the other side all guns blazing, snorting and flicking his tail, his little black ears pinning back as he sped forward. I could see Walt panic for a minute as they approached the 1.00 jump.
“Dont touch his mouth, just sit!” I called out as they made it to the lift off of the second jump. With a grunt, the stallion hopped over the jump. Walt’s lower leg was still as stone as they made it over and to the oxer. I crossed my fingers as I watched Theodore drop his head to the jump.
“GET UP!” Walt growled, as the stallion flew over the .90 over. They landed perfectly on the other side, just before Theo bolted forward and jumped up with a angry buck and snort.
“Well! Maybe we should try that again!” I said with a small laugh.
“You dont say-“ Walt said sitting deep in the saddle to slow Theodore down to a rushy trot. ~
Another New Pony! ~~ Introducing EYEC Unfinished Business, aka Henry. He’s a 4 year old warmblood gelding who’s still in the works. He was only recently saddlebroke and has only just started jumping. He’s a very quiet and down to earth horse, he never gets overly excited and likes to take things slow- he needs a whole lotta leg to get him going. He’s a bit of a loner on foot, he’s usually by himself in the pasture and prefers it that way. He’s perfectly happy all by his lonesome, but he doesn’t mind attention. Though you wont see him galloping up to the fence for a treat. He may be up for lease during the next ESEF show season (Whenever ESEF Picks back up) depending on how his training is going. So keep your eyes out in 2019 for him! ~
Making rushing look pretty ~
~ Only Burt and Mowgly can make rushing to a jump look beautiful... Burty and Mowgly (now given the show name Wildheart) had a little ride together a while back, and it was very successful in Burt's case! Not so much Mowgly's case, but it was good practice for Burton, it now having been around a year and a half after his leg injury. He said that he wasn't feeling much pain anymore and he's been getting his old godly seat back. Mowgly isn't a big fan of the indoor ring because of all the echoing and the pigeons that get in, so he was rather anxious but Burty handled it amazingly. Mowgly even showed off his scope a little bit. It was a real fun ride to watch, and Burty quite enjoyed getting back on a more lively horse, like Momo. He even fits rather well on him! ~
Comin' back lads! Slowly but surely! Cheers!

New Season, New Project ~
~ Introducing the lovely Blue Hors Tonik! by the fantastic Blue Hors Taminiau (Blue Hors Stables ), out of EYEC Talmont. He’s a 3 year old KWPN dressage Colt, who’s starting under saddle! (aged up to 3 for story purposes)Tonik has been spending time up in Lake District at my family’s Vanner stud, growing up with the youngstock up there. He’s very independent because of it, and he does perfectly fine living out in the pasture and being grassfed. He gets along well with some of the geldings he gets turned out with and doesn’t cause much of a ruckus, and is all around very well behaved with other horses. However, with being left to his own devices as a youngstock, he’s fairly shy around people, especially now in his new surroundings at EYEC. He’s been settling quite well with his new batch of friends, he’s just shy. Tonik has spent the last couple of weeks adjusting to the new surroundings, being brought out to our riding rings quite a few times to sniff around and adjust to the new sights and smells.
Tonik had his first go in a saddle and did fantastic! He had a couple little tantrums but warmed up to the saddle in the end. He’ll probably get a few more runs to get adjusted to having a saddle on his back before I even think about popping someone on him. He’s still quite shy around people and I think trying to get someone on his back while he’s uncertain with people and saddles would just end up being a terrible experience for him. However, once I’ve got Tonik saddle broke and teach him some manners, he’ll be handed over to either Burt of Lynwood for the rest of his training in dressage. He’s a handsome nonetheless even if I will be banished from touching him for the rest of his training because no one trusts me anymore. (Throwback to “Satan”) Though I definitely think he’ll do great in the dressage ring once he’s over his shy phase! ~

The Dreaded Chestnut Mare ~
~ Introducing Highland Crescendo! 6 year old OTTB mare A few weeks ago I purchased a new off-track thoroughbred, spending the most money I have ever spent on a ottb... Guess one of my kids aren't going to Uni (JK) I've had my eyes on this lady for quite a while as she's got quite the track record, along with an insane pedigree, (she's related to the first horse I ever bought!) and I've seen videos of her being ridden off-track and she is a stunner. I've been in love with Crescendo for a while now and the moment I found out she was retiring from the track I got over to the auction house as if my life depended on it. It was quite amusing being at the auction house in a fleet foxes hoodie and sweats amongst guys in fancy little suits and hats. I got quite a few nasty looks whilst being dressed like a homeless hipster (the unshaveness really brought it all together) It was all the more amusing when I won the mare against all these dudes trying to buy her for breeding but nah. The crowd gasped as I confidently announced the fact I am turning her into an eventer. (JK, again. though I should've done that. It would've been funny) I was ecstatic to bring this little lady home, my husband eh.... not so much at first. However once I showed him all the good about her he lightened up. Though, he said I was on my own with training because I spent so much on her. She is quite the character though! She's real headstrong and is insanely strong and she has "strong opinions." Crescendo is such a lovely ride, and is so rhythmic, which is fitting for her name! Currently she is a bit nervous when it comes to being by herself in the ring and prefers to have other horses around, but she can be a bit of an ass to the other horses if they get too close. It's quite amusing watching her out in the pasture since she is quite the instigator of trouble. She gets turned out with Lourmais and she loves to challenge LouLou, aaaand Lou is not too happy about her. Meanwhile, poor Tally get teased all the time by her. Other than being a little terror, she's been settling in lovely and I cannot wait to do more work on her! If you can't tell I'm really excited about the little mare!
