FEAT. LUZIA CAMBARÁ & MISSIONEIRO ANCHIETA The dawn was her favorite part of the day. Every morning, before sunrise, since she was a little girl, Luzia rode through those hills. She knew every slope, every termite mound, every pebble of every creek. In a hotter day, she'd taken the shorter route to dip her feet in the water. She looked at the horizon. The deep dark blue was giving way to sunlight. Soon the sun would come out and wipe away the freezing fog that slept on those hills.
Luzia tied a knot on the reins, took the chimarrão from the bag and served a cuia, eagerly drinking the bitter boiling hot water. Missioneiro, old horse, companion of many travels, needn't guidance through that estância. He walked in clockwork rhythm, surefooted, crossing the lumpy terrain without hesitation. He knew where they were going, he'd walked that path countless times, with that woman on his back when she was only a midge, cavorting on the saddlery, clinging to his mane, playing with his ears, singing lullabies.
- Ê, Missioneiro velho de guerra. - Luzia said to the horse, running her hand on the thick roached mane.
Missioneiro halted between two slopes. They'd arrived. The sun rose from behind the endless slope of hills, that extended beyond eyesight. The grass, slowly recovering from the rough winter, and the sky were painted amber, the dew on the grass glistering as golden pepitas.
Soon the sky would turn blue and the chore would begin. Like every day before that, for the past twenty years. |
 Never hurts to post old photos. That's life in the estância (ranch) for ya'll. I miss my pixel and rl criollos, so expect some criollo dumping the next few posts. |

Oh, Annie! I've just been through and caught up on the posts I've missed while on holiday and !!! they are superb as ever, but those black and white entries speak to my soul.   Honorable mention to Pito. Pito the passenger horse. You've got to love horses like that. Sometimes even the pros just need to sit back and chill and be taken along for a ride.
I did NOT know you had a ranch going on and am PRODIGIOUSLY PLEASED at the prospect of seeing more of these style photos from you! That Criollo is absolutely gorgeous and there's a real exotic allure about that whole picture... the ranch bridle, the golden countryside, the mysterious rider in her working attire... It's so wonderfully different and I live for that. I'm so glad you were able to retrieve a back up and restore your game (worried you had disappeared for good for a while there!) I hope to see more from you soon!  |

ariadne It amazes me that even your comments are a good read I have a thing for B&W pictures, you bet there are more coming soon. Every rider needs a Pito in their lives. I can't wait to finish editing this world to take loads of pictures of the ranch, criollos ftw!

A SEASON LATE UPDATE
FEAT. OSANA & ANNIE; RIOT GEAR & GEORGIA I don't think I've ever maneged to post a fall picture in the fall, same goes for every frigging season. So, here are some fall pictures. Stay tuned for snowy christmas pictures next summer.
You know when you go in game to take a show picture and end up with a whole new herd? Meet the exquisite Osana. She's one BIG silly 4yo, loves squeaky toys, bananas, hats and watching people play the guitar. |
don't wanna brag but I was pretty proud of these arenas) 
And here's our resident XC machine, Riot Gear, ain't no jump too scary for this girl. She's got jumping ability to spare, her dressage game is weak though, that's the main thing to work on over the snowy months. If everything goes well, she'll debut in the big CCI courses next year! |

(ive been meaning to comment way earlier but it’s better late than never)
first, hats off to that arena! it’s really lovely with the white flowers and the beautiful trees in the background 🍂
but more importantly. ANNIE. OSANA. LOOK AT HER. shes an absolute masterpiece and singlehandedly got rid of chestnut mares’ bad reps 😭 her gold dapples in the fall are perfection and her personality makes me want to cry (out of love, of course). I LOVE HER. i really cant express how pretty and adorable she is. what a lovely lady 😩💖 PLEASE give her lots of treats and hugs for me.

PALPATINE
FEAT. PALPATINE & LUCAS When Palpatine arrived to us, he had no ground manners whatsoever and was the snappiest stallion. His behaviour was so bad we decided he didn't need to be a stallion. Now, as a gelding, he's still fiery but his behaviour has improved by leaps and bounds.
We nicknamed him Smiley, and he is looking for a new home. He is a brave brave showjumper and needs a rider that will go with him and not hold him back. Like Lucas did in the butterfly vertical.
