Posting Rules
Any Equus-Sims member may host a horse show. You may even partner with someone to host your show. You don't have to know jack-diddly about the proper way to do things in order to host a horse show. These are about coming together, role-playing with your characters, and having fun in a competitive environment.
- The parameters and requirements of your horse show are up to you. It's important that you provide some kind of reward for your horse show.
- Please no bumping.
- Please label your threads as Open or Closed. Inactive topics will be closed and archived. To re-open, please contact an administrator.
- Fun shows = shows not based on a discipline but still yield prizes and have the same feel or setup as a horse show.
- All shows must require a minimum of one photo as part of the entry.
Hosting a Show
If you're hosting a show, the first thing you need to figure out are the parameters of your event. Some of the following are good to cover in your competition's thread:
PARAMETERS
What type of competition is it? (Discipline, in-hand, breed show, fun show, etc)
Are there any classes or other divisions?
Are there age restrictions for riders or horses?
Are fantasy equines allowed?
What are entry requirements? (i.e. A single photo, numerous photos, or a photo and a story?)
How many times can a member enter?
Are there any pre-requisites for competing in your event? (i.e. Did entrants have to compete in a prior competition or workshop?)
Are you judging based on real life standards? (i.e. Can drafts compete in upper level jumpers?)
Are there breed requirements? (i.e. Must be an Arabian horse to enter)
Is there a certain lot requirement for the event or can entrants use any location? (i.e. Providing a downloadable course)
How will the competition produce results? (See below for details)
What is the required turn-out for horse and rider?
How long will the show last for? (Please be reasonable, shows should not last longer than a few weeks)
Setup and Location
We want our horse shows to be heavily creative. This starts with creating an atmosphere for your show! What's the weather like? At what kind of venue does it take place? Who is hosting the event and what are they like? What's the crowd turn-out, heavy or light? Is it a big show at a fancy equestrian complex, or a small one that takes place at a local barn? There are a lot of details you can cover that will add richness to your show, which will entice people to participate.
Naming Your Show
Naming your show should be creative, but also informative. Be clear in the title as to what a member might find in your show's thread. Is it a qualifier? Is the final competition? Is it for ponies exclusively?
Visuals
Graphics are not required for your show, but the more visuals you include the better we can get a sense of the atmosphere. You can do banners, show pictures of the venue or course, or even use visuals to aid in conveying the conditions of your show (weather, turn-out, crowds, etc).
Results
If you're hosting a show, how you determine winners is totally, completely up to you. The only requirement is that you provide this information clearly at the start of your show, so entrants will know what to expect when the show ends. Below are some ideas on how to produce results, but if you think of something else, that's totally fine too.
Randomization (randomly generating results)
By Roleplay (producing results based on a storyline)
By traditional judging (scoring photos based on your criteria)
By community vote (based on whatever questions or other criteria you come up with)
Rewards
Show hosts are allowed to provide whatever rewards they so choose. Graphics or custom content are always encouraged!
Participation
Any member may participate in the competitions hosted on Equus-Sims. Prior to participating, please be sure to read the requirements for each show, as they may vary based on whomever is hosting.
Entering Your Own Show
Totally a fine thing to do. But if you do, try to avoid judging your own class. If you're going by community vote, then it's definitely no problem at all!
When a Host Goes Missing
If you enter a show, you should realize there's always a chance that the host will disappear, often due to real life and other unavoidable circumstances. If your host has gone MIA, please contact a Moderator. Shows whose host(s) go missing will have the results randomly generated by default.
Fun Shows or Contests
Fun shows were initially introduced on our first forum. These are typically competitions that are not based on real life disciplines. They are often based on a theme, such as medieval, wild west, fantasy, victorian, etc. There have also been costume contests, shows for a cause, and other lighthearted games. Fun shows can include real life disciplines, but must have some kind of exaggerated panache!
