HISTORY
Steve Longson was brought up on a UK version of a Texan cattle ranch in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, England. He could rope a calf from the western saddle of his welsh pony and tie down the calf in a few seconds. His father had met an English country girl who was on vacation in Texas and fell in love, deciding to move to the UK after 5 years in the US and set up their Western, racing and English competing and breeding stables in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. A girl called Kendra came to the UK ranch on work experience, she was just 14 years old and a bit of a rebel due to family circumstances having been tough, she and Steve who was 15 at the time, soon became fond of each other and 9 months later welcomed their daughter Jessica. Kendra's parents were furious with her for getting pregnant so young but she and Steve had got caught up in the moment and to their credit, they have worked very hard to build up what is now known as Shamrock Stables. They are still often met with the odd raised eye brow which they accept but thankfully their clients acknowledge the result of lots of hard labour and love. Kendra's brother and step sister, Robert and Vivian Cooper now oversee most of the Western side of the stables, with Vivian competing in the US with their up and coming pintaloosa's and an APH from Iron River Ranch, IRR Bucky Gets Frosty, alongside AF Moonlight Taboo, a stunning and starting to show potential in the show ring, AQH. Steve's father trains the few home bred Thoroughbreds they have, as well as training the Cutting and Western Pleasure horses. Steve and Kendra have their full Flat and Jump Jockey licenses, as does Jessica who recently got hers after turning 18 in September 2017. They all share responsibility on the English trained horses, so the daily routine schedules are like a military operation to ensure everyone is fed, watered, mucked out, exercised, vet checked etc the list is endless at the right times. It's hard work but everyone enjoys it. Husband and wife vet team Brian and Dakota Swinton are the live in vets for Shamrock Stables, with 2 vetinary nurses and 1 receptionist, it can get a bit hectic but these guys get their rounds done brilliantly, alongside overseeing the Breeding side with Kendra.
