HISTORY (OPTIONAL)
To whom it may concern; the history of Helm Lock Stables,
When she was just a girl, Ulfridur's Jamaican grandmother and Irish grandfather owned a small, poor, but happy, working farm in the country, while her parents lived in the suburbs of Los Angeles. It was here in the humble woodlands of Oregon that Ulfridur felt the call of her heritage, drawn to animals, specifically the horses that galloped in the pastures and the sleepy yawns of kittens in the hay loft. This love fueled her passion for animals later on in life, though it was temporarily squashed as a young model, posing for small time international magazines and articles that used her bloodline as an excuse for her face plastered on their pages. With fame, came discrimination, and discrimination brought much pain for Ulfridur, until the day her grandmother and mother told her the truth of who she really was.
A wolf. A she-wolf, fierce, deadly, loyal, powerful. She could rip apart their emotions like the jaws of a starved hound, but Ulfridur was too gentle for that. She was from many rich cultures, and her mother, a Norwegian native, told her the stories of the homeland, the town she lived in, and the legends around it. Vikings, bold, brash, invaders and conquerors who took joy in the blood of the slain, and howled in anger at the lost. This is who she was. A child of the Vikings, a child of yore, born of broken pieces made whole into something brand new and beautiful.
With this knowledge, her confidence swelled up, and she began to research her family history, crests, and began to display this proudly, until the day at a photoshoot, a friend mentioned about the SCA, or the Society for Creative Anachronism, and what it does. Raids, battles, fights, combat, for honor and glory to the Kingdoms! Oh, it was everything she dreamed of, to make her family proud! It wasn't long until she found the Equestrian parts of the SCA and fell deeper in love with the Society and her Kingdom.
Soon, Ulfridur became a Marshall, then a Kingdom Officer, and no later than that, she was awarded the highest honors by the King and His Court for her bravery and hard work. Together with a friend, they bred and trained horses for the SCA, but they quickly out grew the original, small little 8 acre farm. Determined to continue this work, Ulfridur saved every last penny from her work as a model and selling high quality horses to purchase Helm Lock Stables. 23 acres, a good fourth of it still wooded, it needed quite a lot of work for only $110,000. The original estate had a crumbling house, the original two stalled pole barn meant for pregnant mares, a good sized main barn with wooden, rustic stall fronts and a few pastures.
For the last year, Ulfridur has been working with her students, volunteers, and career-SCA wannabes to restore and reignite the fire of this place. It's the castle in which the Queen doesn't need a King, the place where she rules with a sword at her side and blood on her heels. It's where the Wolf hangs her helm and whispers lullabies to the beasts who slumber away in the night. This is Helm Lock Stables, a place of possibilities, fire, determination, and a heart to conquer the world with one day at a time.
Sincerely,
