Phoenix Hill Taleshearts and horses ABOUT
Effie Phoenix is a dedicated horse rider. She works at Phoenix Hill Farm as a rider and groom for her boss Maxwell and his son Callum. A new horse arrives at Phoenix Hill for Effie to train and compete but the three year old is unbroken. Maxwell wants to test Effie's dedication and patience.
---------
Effie's alarmed buzzed loudly, singing the same tune it did every morning, the tune Effie had grown to hate. The young woman wasn't a morning person, nor a night owl actually, she was constantly exhausted but surprisingly she didn't mind it. She was in a job she loved which although was tiring it was extremely rewarding and gave Effie pleasure. Since a child she had dreamt of riding and competing horses but with growing up with strict and cynical parents meant she'd never been able to pursue her dreams. Her parents hated horses. They didn't understand her love and passion for horses so she'd grown up collecting horse magazines, reading up online and watching videos on YouTube of people competing and riding their horses.
Gritting her teeth she slid out of bed and into the cold. She lived onsite Phoenix Hill Farm in a small but cosy cabin which was recently renovated and decorated with a modern yet country touch. She'd left the log fire on through the night but it had now turned to ash leaving the cabin airily cold. Soon Effie was out at the barn turning out horses. The first horse she'd turned out was Windstar, he was a handful and she'd sighed as her phone began to ring loudly whilst she was leading the stallion to his paddock, spooking him and causing him to drag her forward. It was always a huge effort handling him because he didn't realise how strong he was and tended to throw his weight around. Now she had turned him out she slipped her phone out of her pocket and unlocked it. Missed Call: Maxwell. Oh, she'd mumbled before calling him back.
"Hello Effie, I have a youngster arriving at the farm in an hour, go get her stable ready," and with that he hung up the phone. Effie raised her eyebrows and hurried to the barn. Maxwell was blunt sure, but he'd never been this vague. He always over-explained everything, making sure she knew what was going on and what instructions she had to undertake. He hadn't told her up until the last minute that the horse was arriving. Why?
An hour later and a hot, flustered Effie, Maxwell turned up in his lorry. Effie could hear a horse shrieking inside the box, kicking the sides and causing the lorry to rock slightly from side to side. Maxwell parked the lorry up outside the barn and hopped out. He nodded at Effie and then towards the ramp and she scuttled towards it and unbolted the sides. The side ramp lowered itself and a skinny flea-bitten grey mare pranced nervously watching them with wide eyes. "Meet no name, no name this is Effie. I hope you don't mind Effie but this mare will be yours. You can train her, feed her up and get her into condition and she will be your new competition horse. I want you to prove to me your horsemanship skills. You've had it easy until now but I think you're ready for a challenge." Effie stood and nodded dazed and in shock.

NOTE
Photos will come later. I'm currently looking for someone to make me "no name" the flea-bitten mare because I am awful at coat making- an arabian I'm thinking. If you want to help a girl out please message me! She will be used in this roleplay and eventually in ESRPG when she's progressed in this roleplay. Also I forgot to mention that comments are welcome.
------------ Effie stared cautiously at the mare before her. Maxwell was trusting her with this broken down mare to train and nurse back to health? She'd never done anything of the sort before in her life, surely he knew that yet he had confidence in her. It didn't give Effie much confidence but she was stubborn with a need to prove herself.
Inside the box the mare crow hopped and threw her head in an attempt to free herself. With caution Effie approached the mare and began to move the partition away. Instantly, "no name" pinned her ears back and snapped at Effie missing her by an inch, causing her to jump away from the mare. "Where did you get her from?" She stammered and turned to Maxwell. "An old friend of mine was selling up his equestrian centre. All the horses needed to go. Said this mare was going to slaughter because she was a danger to herself and her handlers. She's untouched, a fresh canvas... a damaged one at that but you know I never give up on her horse. I think you can change her," He replied whilst pushing her gently towards the mare. "No Name" began to swish her tail and head shake in response.
"Woah girl, easy..." Maxwell muttered nodding towards Effie. The mare was frightened and displayed her fear in aggression Effie knew that much. What she didn't know was what had caused the mare to become this way. She untied "No Name" and was yanked down the ramp, scuffing her boots on the gravel and trying to hold onto the mare. "Hey! Steady," Effie murmured but her voice failed to soothe the mare who stood snorting, nostrils wide. A gust of wind swept across the yard and the flea-bitten mare squealed at the top of her lungs and pawed viciously at the ground. "Take her into the stall Effie and try to settle her. I'll bring my mare in for company." Maxwell instructed.
Entering the barn aisle "No Name" surprisingly seemed to settle slightly. The aisle was almost empty, aside from Elessandra, a little bay pony who's head barely reached over the stable door. At the end of the aisle a stall was made up and ready in isolation. Maxwell's mare 'Tully' was going to stay in the stable nearest to the isolation stable for company.
No name pranced on the spot tossing her head up and down and she pulled with strength on the leadrope which Effie was holding onto. With a great amount of effort and uproar from "No Name" Effie had managed to wrestle her into the stall. She'd quickly slipped the headcollar from the mares dished face, slammed the door and stood panting whilst watching the mare run circles round the stall. "No Name, I think I'm going to have my work cut out, huh?"
By the time Tully was settled into the stable the sun was beginning to set. Effie was perched on a large wooden grooming box outside of "No Name's" stall, watching the mare squeal and kick at the walls. The mare had refused to eat, Effie had given her a fresh slice of haylage, hay and a mushy feed to tempt her but she'd refused to even sniff them. Her fresh water bucket was placed at the back of the stable also untouched. Effie was worried. She'd never dealt with a horse so frightened before and what if she couldn't help her? "No Name" was defensive and Effie felt like walking into her stall and giving her a huge hug because she wished she could take away the fear that the mare was experiencing.
"Effie, go back to your cabin it's late." Effie jumped at her bosses voice which caused "No Name" to squeal and shuffle to the back of her stall. Effie took one last glance at her before heading out of the barn, sliding the american doors closed and trudging back to her cabin in the dark.

Phoenix Hill Tales hearts and horses
Effie had checked on the mare four times during the night. She worried about the broken down mare, her over-thinking led to mild paranoia and she didn't sleep. It was just beginning to become light outside. 4:30AM. Effie slid out of bed and began her usual morning routine but she hurried herself, trying to get to the barn as fast as possible to check on No Name. Out the front door she ran across the path to the stable yard. The rain was hammering down on Effie and she was soaked by the time she'd reached the barn. She'd stopped, bent over and placed her hand on her knees trying to regain her breath before she pulled the barn doors open. Instantly, there was an uproar from No Name's stall and Effie covered her ears when the mare began to shriek in panic. Effie moved slowly and carefully two metres from the the door of the stall. "Hey, shhh... No Name it's me," she whispered, taking her hands from her ears. No Name wasn't reassured by Effie's voice but she didn't become any worse either and she didn't protest when Effie came closer. The woman sighed when she looked at the mare's full haynet and water bucket. "You're going to have to eat and drink something or we're going to have to call the vet and you won't like that."
Maxwell arrived after Effie had fed and skipped out the horses. "Hi Effie. Don't worry about turning them out Callum and I will do it. Has the mare eaten?" "No. By the looks of it she hasn't drunk a thing either," Effie sighed. Maxwell nodded. "Use you intuitive Effie. She won't drink, what do you do? She won't eat... do something." He spoke with a stern tone and Effie nodded and watched him walk away. She stood thinking for a moment before she scuttled away to the feedroom murmuring quietly to herself as she went. Once there she scanned the cabinets and found what she was looking for. Electrolyte powder... though she didn't know how she was going to get the mare to drink or eat the powder. Maybe an electrolyte paste? Or a himalayan salt lick they had those- she remembered Callum telling her how important they were for the horses. Swiftly, she grabbed a salt lick from a tub and strode along to No Name's stable. The mare pranced on the spot with her ears flattened as she watched Effie unbolt the door. Effie muttered quietly to try soothe the mare to no avail when she entered the stall. No Name warn-lunged at her, warning her off but not with the intention of causing damage. She moved out the way of the mare and began to place the salt lick in a holder to string up in the stall. She managed to tie it up before No Name lunged for a second time but this time she meant it. Her teeth lightly scraped Effie's shoulder causing Effie to hiss quietly as to suppress any loud sound. The door was closed and bolted in less than a second with Effie safe out of No Name's way. "Wow." Effie raised her eyebrows and put her hands on her hips.
Effie sat opposite the mare's stable on the old grooming box. No Name had so far refused to move from the same corner in the stable. Thinking hard, Effie took her phone from her pocket, went into her music and found some slow, quiet music and began to play it. No Name snorted and pawed at the ground with her ears twitching back and forth. The mare almost seemed to relax a little until Effie shuffled on the box which caused her to tense up and shriek. Damn it. Soon though the mare had relaxed again and nipped at the haynet gently before she dropped her head and snuffled her bedding. Effie smiled silently and watched No Name nibble at the salt lick. She took two licks before pushing herself back into the corner of the stable and tensing up again. Effie sighed quietly again and walked back to her cabin, returning with a radio and some apple juice. She plugged the radio into the wall, switched it onto Smooth Radio and left it to play for her. She poured a small amount of apple juice into the feeder and walked away hoping that No Name would eventually drink the apple juice.

Phoenix Hill Tales hearts and horses By morning there wasn't much change in No Name. Effie had walked to the barn early and was pleased to find that the apple juice had gone down a treat. A few ants were crawling over the sticky residue left on the feeder and Effie crinkled up her face, grabbed the bucket and walked it back to the feedroom. Whilst washing out the bucket with some warm water she racked her brains trying to think of a way to get No Name to eat.
"You're running late and the horses haven't been fed." Maxwell grunted, startling Effie. She straightened up and nodded before grabbing the majority of the feed buckets and prepping feeds. "How is she?" Maxwell asked, causing Effie to startle once more which led her to drop a couple of conditioning cubes on the feedroom floor. "She had some apple juice, I'm going to pour a little in her water bucket and hope she drinks. She hasn't eaten much so I'm trying to figure out something she'd like," Effie mumbled beginning to mix the feeds with water. "Sounds promising. We'll be off see you later Effie." He looked down at the mess on the floor. "I'll get that," Effie smiled sweetly as to mask the sarcasm before she watched him walk away.
By 9:45AM all the horses had been fed and turned out. Maxwell was stood beside Effie in front of No Name's stall with his arms crossed over his chest. No Name stood quivering in the corner and continued to kick out at the back boards of the stable. "Her legs have swelled up, she's awfully frustrated and upset. What do you think- shall we free up a paddock to turn her out in?" Effie hoped he'd say yes since she couldn't stand to watch No Name so upset. "Sure. Take the paddock next to the indoor arena but tell me... How are you going to get her there?" He replied before continuing, "Give me your ideas, go..."
No Name span in vicious circles once Effie brought the halter over to the stable door. Effie gasped as No Name cow kicked the stall and launched at her over the stable door. "Hey, easy! Hey No Name!" She called beginning to panic as the mare ran at the stable door eyeing it up as to whether she could jump out. Effie lowered the halter and dodged a nasty bite from No Name when she stumbled and fell to the floor. No Name began to shriek, thrash around and before anyone could stop her she leapt over the stable door and bolted down the barn aisle.
Effie looked to Maxwell who stood staring at her for a second before they both sprinted after her. "Grab the halter, she's heading towards the gate," Maxwell yelled. Panic stricken Effie snatched the halter and tripped over once more as she tried to run as fast as she could. She managed to steady herself before she ran out the other end of the barn. She spotted No Name right away, Maxwell had cornered her and the mare bolted from left to the right not moving more than three foot either way. "Open the paddock gate Effie, we'll guide her into it just stay calm."
Effie was crying quietly when she pulled the gate open and jogged back towards her boss who was making cooing noises at the distressed mare. No Name kicked out at them and shrieked at the top of her lungs. The other horses were calling back to her causing her to go wild. Maxwell snatched the leadrope and halter out of Effie's hands and began to cluck at No Name who ran off to the right heading towards the open gate to the paddock. "Effie, get ahead of her - don't let her go past the gate." The young girl sobbed as she sprinted to catch up with No Name who fortunately bolted through the gate to which Effie slammed shut.
"Holy hell." Maxwell gasped for breath as he reached Effie and rubbed the back of his neck.
