Located in the historic town of Great Bear, Richmond Hill is an establishment dedicated to the education of any and all aspiring equestrians. Owned by Elizabeth and Josh Wright, the property hosts the family home and stables, as well as an outdoor arena and an indoor arena for the winter.
The Wright's offer individual and group lessons for riders both experienced and inexperienced, of every age. Group trail rides and overnight horseback camping trips are offered when the weather permits. Richmond Hill also provides many volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in the community.
During the summer, the locally popular week-long "Horse Camp" is offered, wherein participating children engage in activities that help them to learn the ins and outs of proper horse care, handling, and riding, all under the supervision of Elizabeth and experienced volunteers.

Welcome to the ranch!
We provide group and one-on-one riding lessons for equestrians of every age, of any level of experience, as well as trail rides through the beautiful Colorado mountains. Our facilities include educational equipment and materials, tack, feed, helmets and other riding equipment, an indoor and outdoor arena, and most importantly, a safe environment for our riders.

Most of the volunteers have been with us for two to three years. Some live and work in Great Bear, others are on again/off again temporary volunteers jumping back and forth between work, school, and the ranch. All have a unique passion for horses and riding, and have been trained to work with both very young and highly experienced riders.

RHR SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDER
Barn Name: Sunny
Sunny wants to go. He wants to go now, and he wants to go fast. If you ride him, you've gotta know what you're doing, or else you'll find yourself on the other side of the trail in seconds flat, probably on your butt in the dirt.
RHR COLORADO FORTUNE
Barn Name: Ranger
Barn Name: Ranger
Ranger goes from stand-still to gentle plod in maybe two minutes flat on a good day, making him the perfect mount for the little guys who just need to focus on staying in the saddle. He's just a few apple-treats away from being your new best friend.
RHR BOBBY MCGEE
Barn Name: Bo
Not a whole lot phases Bobby. Loud noise in the barn? Not interested. Scary log on the trail? No problem. A bit strong-willed, he's a good choice for some of the older, slightly more experienced riders, or the older kids, and is a favorite of Josh.

Barn Name: Passion
Passion also likes to go fast. Even when her rider is begging, pleading for her to slow down, she likes to go fast. Sondra and Jay love her for that, and know that she delights in tearing up the trails. Though, she is known for losing shoes more frequently than her stable-mates.

Barn Name: Lacy
Lacy isn't just the princess of the ranch - she's the Queen. Kids love brushing out her long mane and tail, and she also loves being pampered by the kids during grooming times. She's often paired with adult students who are just learning.

Well-versed in dressage and often chosen for casual rides and overnight trail camping trips, Arezo is Elizabeth's treasure. The only thing she would change about him is his habit of dunking hay in his automatic waterer. The cleanup is gross.

The resident big, goofy labrador, Rico is a big hit with the kiddos. He usually tags along on trail rides.
