Talisman Equestrian Rescue Program
Welcome to Talisman Equestrian's Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation Program. We're very small and local, but we've taken in horses who were abandoned, surrendered, or dumped at auctions and given them a second chance at life. Though this scrapbook may not be updated often, I hope you stop by occasionally to see new faces or to check for adoptable horses who are ready to graduate out of our program and into yours.
I'd like to start by introducing all the horses who have come and gone in our program.
Some of these photos are very old, but that's my fault because I suck at updating them
Our Graduates
Scarlett: Scarlett is a large Appaloosa/Thoroughbred/Percheron mare who we rescued from a barren field where she had been abandoned after her owner left her in the care of her parents while she went to college. Scarlett was emaciated and depressed and it took a while (and a lot of groceries) to get her to open up and show us what a golden girl she really is. Once her weight and emotional state improved, we saw how much talent and knowledge she has in just about anything we asked her to do. She has amazing scope, dressage movement, ability to perform tasks under any tack, and even knows a few tricks. She was adopted by the lovely Piper Chance , but will always have a special place in our hearts as our first success story
Haveaniceday: Haveaniceday, aka Happy, is our other graduate. She wasn't so much a rescue case as she was surrendered to us by someone who couldn't handle a high energy, fresh OTTB. Happy wasn't with us for too long, and we sent her off to an OTTB retraining facility, but we do miss her sweet, friendly disposition and breathtaking movement.
Our Current Projects
Elmo: Elmo was our second equine to come through or doors after his owner gave up on caring for him because he scared her too much. He was an absolute jerk of a mule with serious aggression issues that, due to his size were very problematic and took a long time to fix. We dug up the root of his problem which was a massive amount of gastric ulcers which were keeping him in constant discomfort, which is why he turned to aggression as a means of expressing his unhappiness. With the ulcers treated, Elmo started to sweeten up a bit, but old habits die hard and he still reverts back to aggression when he's stressed or uncomfortable.
Dipsy: Dipsy is a little Welssh Pony gelding who was surrendered to us because his owner couldn't afford to treat his cushings disease any longer. He lives a happy retirement keeping our rescues company and frolicking in his paddock
Albert: Our final rescue is this sweet man by the name of ALbert. We bought a frightened and malnourished Albert from a kill pen a few months back and brought him to our program. He was very wary and unsure of himslef and us and it took some time to gain his trust, but in the few months he's been with us he's really progressed. We've found that he really enjoys trail riding and popping over low jumps. Keep your eyes peeled for this guy on our adoptions list in the near (or far) future!
I hope you enjoyed this first look at our program! Stick around for more (infrequent) updates and additions to our rescue herd!
