CHIO Sims Part 1: The Arrival (CHIO Sims - a Facebook event) *** Since my humble self was convinced to participate, of course I also thought. I had only one horse I could compete with and only in Show Jumping. So how to participate in the Dressage and Cross Country? The solution was offered by my teammate Annabelle Wolfsbane. Since she had a few horses that competed in Eventing, she suggested that I could lend one of her horses. I just have to choose one thing. She also suggested to me Wolfbane's Oxalagu. An English Thoroughbred, which had many years of experience. After moving to the new little ranch, I was finally able to accept Oxalagu and pick him up. He got the box next to Don and the two eyed each other curiously. Outside the stable I whistled once aloud. My boys responded and immediately saw what I wanted them to do. Oxalagu joined them, but more likely because he was curious about what was going on outside. Later I would put him on the pasture, still separated from my boys. These would come to another pasture. And it should be a last attempt, if Korni would bring in or if it had to come to a farewell. ***

A Goodbye *** Today I had a last try. He brought Ahiga, Don and Korni to a pasture and wanted to see how it went. In fact, it initially looked positive. Everyone explored the large meadow and grazed peacefully. The theater did not start until Korni wanted to drink. Ahiga and Don stood nearby and as soon as Korni approached, the drama started. He put his ears to his ears and started to drive the others away. Ahiga had no desire for the stress and sought the distance. So not Don. This did not look like it to drive away from the younger ones. And Korni? Instead of letting it be good and drinking easy, he started to provoke Don. However, Don was, for a reason, the leader of the troupe. Generally calm, he could hand out, if necessary. Korni also felt that. Only he did not learn from it. Reconnected with Don. Then I intervened and brought Korni from the pasture. That was it decided thing. I would hand him over to a well known race stud. He was just too aggressive and not just in the herd. Also to people or when he should be ridden. And that was because of his character, not physical discomfort. After Victim, another thoroughbred, I concluded with it. This breed was nice, but nothing for me. I just lacked training and I did not have that much experience with racehorses. He would do much better on a stud where he would be rightly taken care of. In the end, I clarified everything by phone and already the next day said goodbye. It was sad, but I knew he had it better there. And I could concentrate fully on Western, as well as Show Jumping with Don.

CHIO Sims Part II - A day full of enjoyment *** The day started sad. Korni finally left us today, spending the rest of his life with new owners. That was a lucky day for such a nice day. What cheered me up? The silence in the pasture. My way to the stable started looking for Ahiga and Don. My horses spent most of the year on pasture, day and night. So I checked every day to see if they were alright. After that I went to the stable and greeted Oxalagu. The stallion snorted and nudged me joyfully. Short fed, I led him to the pasture of my boys. They came immediately started. Over the fence, they made themselves known, without rods from the box wall in between. Ahiga left immediately. He never cared much for newcomers. After everything had a positive effect, I let Oxalagu on the pasture. He and Don sniffed longer, nibbling each other. Even Ahiga was again marveled at closer. After things went so well, I took off his halter and took care of transporting Korni. It was not until late afternoon that I looked again for the boys. A wonderful picture showed up to me. Ahiga had moved into the shadows of the open stables while Oxalagu and Don were grazing shoulder to shoulder. Only when Ahiga snorted, Oxalagu looked up briefly. There were probably two found. No matter where Don went, Oxalagu followed. Within a few hours, a close friendship had developed. That was incredible! Too bad that Oxalagu had to leave after the CHIO. But the time until then we would fully use! ***

CHIO Sims Part III - Training with Don *** Today was a great day. Although very warm, but the wind brought coolness with it. Determined, I grabbed the phone and called a nearby stud farm. The owner bred high quality Hanoverian and owned other breeds. He was also out and about everywhere. Dressage, Show Jumping, Cross Country. Accordingly, his stud was also equipped. He gave me permission to use his place. So I grabbed Don, led him into the van and off we went. We drove a little bit, then we were finally on the stud. I greeted all the unknowns who crossed my path, got Don and cleaned him up. Then he got the saddlery set up. In the square I rode him warm and planned by the way his own little course. As soon as Don was ready, I drove him to a gentle gallop. Rode the train and it started. We crossed the first obstacle and soon we flew away. During the training, the owner came over. He and a few others watched me, which made me a little nervous. At tournaments I ignored that, but I did not like spectators during training. Don noticed my anxiety, of course, and then the first pole fell. Sighing, I dismounted, picked her up, and swung me back into the saddle. One of the coaches, a seasoned tournament rider, came to me. Ask me to give me tips and correct my mistakes. I could not refuse the offer. So it all started again, but this time I only listened to the coach. The audience faded and I was fully concentrated again. From there it was fantastic. I followed instructions, testing Don and myself. In the end, it was like flying over the obstacles. It was incredible and Don also seemed to enjoy it. While we rode comfortably, the coach ran next to me and we talked for a while. His experience would help me a lot and he even offered to train me more often. All in all, it was a successful day!

CHIO Sims Part IV - Preparations for Departure *** The last few days alternated between training and free time, where the horses could relax. Time just flew by and slowly I was supposed to take care of the trip to Aachen. The flight was already booked, I would only have to strive for the transport from the airport to the show grounds. That should not be difficult. In the courtyard I opened the door of the car and Ajax jumped out. The young male sniffed enthusiastically on the floor and then stormed to the paddock where my boys were standing. He was in the new yard for the first time and curiously explored the area. I went to the stable first and got the halter. Then I ran to the pasture and watched Ajax and Oxalagu nudging their noses together. I was glad because I did not know if Oxalagu was compatible with dogs. Apparently at least Ajax did not seem to bother him. Smiling, I greeted the boys, put them on the halters and then led them to the stable. Ahiga came straight into his box, where he immediately discovered the food in the trough. I tied the warm-blooded animals at the cleaning corner. First, I took care of Oxalagu. Cleaned it, cared for the hooves and took care of the tail of grasses and straw. Then I tied this up and wrapped it up. The stallion took it all relaxed and dozed. Then it was Don's turn. He did not like to stand still. What surprised me a bit, because he was a comfortable stallion. Then I realized where he was always stretching his neck. Ahiga's box was filled with hay and Don was right there, of course. Rolling my eyes, I pushed him backward on the chest and then extended the rope. Now he should come to the hay. All this watched Ajax attentively, while Ahiga stretched bored. When both stallions finished, I brought them into their boxes. Tomorrow it would go to Aachen and in me already lived a certain excitement. I fed the boys, then I took Ahiga out of his box and shipped him. He would stay with my old coach Jack for a while while I was out of the country. My friend would take care of the dogs. I would miss him uncannily, but I hoped Nate visited me in Aachen. After all, he was able to deliver the dogs to my brother. For eternity I could not be separated from Nate.

CHIO Sims Part V - The Dressage *** Actually it was planned that Oxalagu takes over the Dressage, as well as Cross Country. However, there was an opportunity for me that I simply could not resist. A young stallion was up for sale - called Myosotis' Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is a Trakehner, just 6 years old and trained in Dressage and Show Jumping. Besides, he is a chestnut, because I just could not say no. After a fairly short adjustment and a light training, it went with him to Oxalagu and Don to Aachen. It was exhausting for the boy. Luckily, he has a calm and relaxed mind. Don, who found it all very exciting, did not influence him at all. He then took an example to Oxalagu, who did not seem to care. During training, there were small difficulties. He did not know me long and the unfamiliar surroundings. I did not expect anything else. Nevertheless, he tried and my rest helped in addition. Then it went to the start. The day started sunny, but it was quite close to our participation. Big clouds were opening and in the distance you could hear the thunder rumble. The nervousness seized me. Tournaments were not foreign to me. In Reining I am often on the road and also in Show Jumping there were launches. Aachen was probably just something new and Dressage I have not ridden forever. And now I joined as representative for England. That was a big fuss. Fitzgerald seemed uncomfortable at first. The voices, the exclamations, strangers and horses. But already after the greeting he relaxed and shared his peace with me. I would say we formed a good team. Not perfect, but I did not expect that. At least everything went well. Mistakes were mostly missing, it was only trifles. It was an accomplishment that I did not expect and that I'm really proud of. Actually, I wanted to introduce Fitzgerald differently, but of course that's how it works. What do you think of him?

CHIO Sims Part VI - Cross Country *** The bad weather has dragged on since dressage. I had little hope for improvement. The event was not canceled, it was better to take ride in the rain. So I got up early and took care of my boys. She fed them and finished off Oxalagu. Thoroughly cleaned him, collected straw from his tail and checked once again if he was really fit. That was very important to me, especially since it was not my horse. Only a loan, since I did not own a horse, which ran Cross Country. "How is it going?", a voice came to me. Oxalagu's enthusiastic snorting told me it could only be Annabelle. Smiling, I turned around and hugged the young woman. Annabelle Wolfsbane not only competed for Team England, she was also the owner of Oxalagu. "The dressage went well, which really pleased me, Fitzgerald showed off his best side, although he is new and we hardly know each other.", I answered. While saddling Oxy, I kept talking to Annabelle. She even helped me what the stallion seemed to like. I have to say, I really loved Annabelle. She was a very nice person and incredibly talented. She accompanied me even to the riding area. Gave me some tips. She knew him a lot better and knew what to look for. As a result, my nervousness faded pretty quickly and I gave her a grateful smile before it started for me. What can I say? It went pretty well. Oxalagu lived up to his race and had a tempo which was a bit strange for me. But since he could not last forever, I held him back. We did not have to be the fastest, just arrive safely. Because the storm was pretty close, it was just pouring from the sky. In the distance you could not only see the lightning, you could hear the thunder as well. Luckily it did not aggravate the stallion, otherwise I would have broken off. After all, nothing should happen to him or to me! Our end times are not among the best, but we ran faultless and arrived without accidents. That was the most important thing. Satisfied, I praised him in the sky, stroked his neck and smacked him on the nostrils. With the blanket under my arm I led him inside and led him around until he was dry. Then I put the blanket over his slightly trembling body and waited anxiously for the interim results.
