Hi and welcome to my little space on the web, the Moon Island Stables blog. Here you will be able to read all about my horse adventures as I embark on my equestrian journey. As of this moment I have 2 horses and very little experience, but I'm learning every day. I read everything horse-related I can get my hands on and have joined several horse websites like, bucked.sim, horse-land.sim and equus-sims.sim.Here's a little info about my horses, I'm sure you're curious about them!My first 'horse' is Zita. She's 11 and her color is black & white.Don't be surprised when you see her pictures, she's a Zebra! I got her from a circus that had to shut down. She's very sweet and loves attention, but she hasn't been trained for riding and I intent to keep it that way.My second horse arrived at the barn today, his name is Thor. He's a 16 year old Norwegian Fjord gelding and I purchased him to be my teacher. I'm going to be taking riding lessons with him and hopefully become a good rider soon. Who knows, if I get good enough I might be able to compete with him in the future!I'll try to write an update every two weeks to let you know how Zita and Thor are doing.See you soon! Today I had my 9th lesson on Thor and it feels like I had my first breakthrough! I was able to ride the trot so much better today. I'm sure I still look like a beginner and I still wobble around a lot, but feeling this much improvement over such a short period of time is so motivating! My instructor also agreed that I'm making good progress and maybe we could go for a hike next week.
Zita is also doing great and made friends with Thor already. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to turn them out in the same pasture soon. See you soon! Labels: horse, zebra, fjord, moon island stables, lesoon, instructor

After some more lessons we finally went on a hike today. My instructor brought her own horse, a big black warmblood to ride with me and Thor. I was a bit nervous at first since I have not been riding for long at all. The warmblood seemed to be nervous as well and jigged on the trail all the way. Thor was very good though and didn't seem to blink an eye at the other horse's behaviour. As I expected my instructor is a very good rider. The fact that her horse wasn't able to throw her alone was already proof of that. I hope that one day I'll be as good as her and own a big horse like her too. I am really inspired to keep on taking lessons and one day own my own dressage horse to go to competitions. But for now Thor will do, he's such a great horse. See you soon! That zebra! What a great idea. Super cute. Do you riding the zebra? Or is it just chilling around?

I don't ride her, she was adopted from a circus that had to be shut down and for now she's just living the good life in the pasture. If I can find out what she learned at the circus, maybe I can do something more with her!

A month ago, my instructor convinced me to participate in a local dressage show with Thor. I was a little bit apprehensive because I haven't been riding for long and I didn't have competitive goals but she said it would be a good experience for both me and Thor and that convinced me.
We practiced our test almost daily for a week or two and at home it went quite well. The day of the competition I was way more nervous than I expected to be and even thought of going back home and forgetting about it. But Thor was so calm, as if he hadn't done anything else his entire life. So I thought I should give it a try for him. All this practice shouldn't have been in vain right?
When we entered the ring my nerves got even worse if that was even possible, but as soon as we greeted the judges I was focused on my test so much that I forgot to be nervous. And when the test ended I realised I actually had a lot of fun!
In the end we came in last place, but when I got my results and saw the notes from the judges I was so motivated to practice and try again! I don't think I've ever felt this motivated in my entire life and I'm really looking forward to the next time me and Thor can enter a competition together. See you soon!
