Riders are moving to the indoor arena to ride, stable hands are smashing iced water troughs, horses are fresh, and the barn is reminding riders to blanket their horses during the cold winter nights of December. Garland is placed on horse's stalls and a christmas tree sits in the main office with a few presents to accompany it. Horse's with santa hats are being placed on the notice board and the annual Mistletoe show is right around the corner. It's Christmas at its fullest.
Jill observed her work, the garland around the stalls looks tight and secure, and the reithes were out of the way of wondering mouths that were sure to think the leaves were a treat. It was finally starting to look like christmas around here, all the horse's had rugs on and some of them even had a few presents by their stall. She couldn't help but not notice the darn mistletoe that someone put right under the crossties which was occupied with a lesson girl and her horse. When she heard the rumors about the barn kids trying to set her up with Liam, she laughed. There would be none of that happening this year. "Jill! Can you help me!" a voice awoke her from her thoughts and she found that one of her lesson students was having trouble with the bridle of the stubborn horse Liam owned and who stuck his nose way up in the air. "Oh Brodie." she chuckled, grabbing the bridle from the girl.
The stubborn 8 year old was acting like a 2 year old! She was standing on her tiptoes but couldn't reach his face.
"Should I go get Liam? His horse after all..." the girl told her watching as Jill struggled a few more tries. When she nodded the small girl disappeared around the corner.
A few seconds later appeared Liam, and as soon as he saw what was going on he laughed and took the bridle from Jill before slipping it into the stubborn horse's mouth with such ease. "I need to get my..boots! Boots! Can you watch him?" The girl didn't give her time to respond before she ran off to the tack room.
"He can be a little stubborn." Liam laughed patting his neck. When Jill nodded in agreement she realized Liam had his eye on something else other than the horse. When Jill looked up she realized there was that darn, stupid, green ball of holly. She never felt more uncomfortable than she did right now. She wanted to disappear behind the horse that stood in between them but was having no luck when he ducked his head to the ground.
"Mistletoe." he told her with a smile. "May I?" And then he kissed her. And she let him.
"YES!" the two jumped back and spotted the small girl jumping up and down with a large grin on her face. "It worked! It finally worked!"
Yes, yes it did. That stupid mistletoe is what gave her the boyfriend she has today.
