you might have clicked on this thread by accident or maybe just out of curiosity, you might be wondering... Who or What is Skydrgaon Stables? I'm about to awnser that question in this thread
Skydragon Stables has evolved from a little house and shed in West-Flanders, to a large and succesful equestrian centre and stud in the Ardennes. Skydragon Stables was originally meant to supply the Belgian and Brittish armies of horses during the first world war that's why, beside being located in Belgium, the stable has an English name. Skydragon was the nickname of a brittish army colonel -Jacob Smit- who was given the orders to find a place to stall horses for the soldiers in Flanders fields before they were brought to the frontline. After Searching for a while and asking around he found a small house with a quite large shed, owned by one of the few Belgian women who spoke English at the time. The owner and the colonel seemed to get along pretty well and she let her use her shed as a temporary horse barn wich they jokingly started calling Skydragon's Stable. It must be admitted that it is a quite cruel note to start on when you take a look at all the horses that passed during the war. Luckily, in 1918 the grey skies cleared: the war was finally over. Jacob survived and moved back to England, but not for long...
The barn lady -Ilsa Hout- and the former colonel kept in touch and eventually got married. It seemed that not only they had found love, but also a new hobby: horses. They moved to the Ardennes and there they founded their brand new equestrian centre: Skydragon Stables was born.In the late fifties, their grandson decided to rebrand the stable: from now on Skydragon stable would focus on a the then recently introduced breed: the one and only Belgian warmblood! The stable, now in our family for four generations, has ever since been expanding and kept improving the horses as well. The people that have run the stables over the years were very different people, but there was one thing they all have in common: the passion four our horses, our jobs and our estate.
