Horse's graze in the distance of rolling hills and thick fog, and the thundering of horse's hooves are as melodic as a song as they charge around in the arena, soaring over jumps as if they were toys. The sweet smell of hay and the choir of whinnies makes one feel safe as one enters the barn, and the clack of hooves on the stone pavement soothes one's busy mind. Home.
For years Black Briar's main goal is to make this place a haven for horses and riders alike.
Their riding program has attracted many rider's around the world so you could say their on the right path. The facility trains and breed Holsteiners and Hanoverians seeing as their speed and agility along with such grace is their movements should be treasured. Black Briar is home to many onsite staff, one vet who lives on property and our two main trainers. Jillian Lowe, and Liam Good. They both have trained and bred horse's to be top level eventers and dressage competitors.

Black Briar
In 1930 Black Briar started out as a small ranch for the Lowe family, their family consisted of Mary and Dace Lowe. The family only owned three horses at the time but eventually began to breed. Dace opened up the barn to a riding school a few years later after his wife died and the birth of his daughter, Jillian. Dace continued to train and breed the magnificent animals while giving lessons to small children, including Jill. In 2018, the small farm turned into a breeding and riding stable with 100's of students and borders attending lessons every week with Jill as the head coach. Her father sadly died at the age of 60 due to a stroke but the left her the facility. Craving for more, Jill expanded the riding school and added many more barns and pastures and also opened up a camp in the summertime. She now has another trainer by her side, Liam Good who has worked with her for years.
The Facility
Black Briar has three main barns, one for boarders, mare and foal, and lesson horses. There are six arenas, two indoor, a covered outdoor, one uncovered and an outdoor and indoor dressage arena. We also have a large cross country course with plenty of different leveled jumps and miles and miles of gated pasture with trees and ponds. Behind everything there is a hot walker, a round pin, and a trailer park. And in the middle of everything there is the main house with plenty of living space for other riders during camp season.
What We Offer
Eventing:
In this field riders are trained how to jump over large obstacles in cross country, scary fillers in show jumping, and hard patterns in dressage. Our team has spots open for 5 people with the head trainer being Jill.
Dressage:
Dressage is a field where horse and rider move as one and connect to one another through difficult patterns and tough movements. There is a dressage team open for 5 people with the head trainer being Liam.
Breeding:
Breeding is something Black Briar takes very seriously, when they produce foals, they are the next generation of Black Briar and its name. The stallions they have are from great pedigree and are masters at what they do. They produce quality foals every spring.
Staff:
Jillian Lowe: Jill is 24 and the best rider at Black Briar, she owns one horse "Save the last Dance" aka Romeo, a spunky and up beat 8 year old, holsteiner gelding that she trained and bred herself for eventing. Then her show jumping prospect, "Harry Potter" aka Potter. He's a 6 year old, skittish and spooky hanoverian that she is hoping to purchase. Jill is outgoing, a little too sarcastic at times, a leader, daredevil and a very caring person. Though at times, she is a little harsh on her students but she does it because she cares. She's currently dating Liam.
Liam Good: Liam Good, also known around the barn as Li, is a 24 year old rider who works alongside Jill during lesson and competitions. He's smart, witty, tough and very much a goofball but when he's serious or mad you may want to back off a little. He gets his point across and his word is law to the lesson kids. He owns two horses, "Bravado" aka Brodie, a goofy and playful 9 year old gelding dressage athlete. And "Out of this world" aka Atlas who is mainly used as a lesson horse but also does small competitions with Liam. He's 10 years old and a very down to earth, playful and friendly gelding.
