Welcome to Stormhaven Farms
Stormhaven Farms is a simplistic, large stable built to house over 70 gaited horses, most of which are Icelandics. Our horses are not kept in stalls but live outside all year round. We built special paddocks for the stallions and open stalls for geldings and mares, enabling them to live in a herd. To train our horses we have a riding hall, two sand and one grass arena, an oval track and our wonderful hills and lakes that surround us.
Sitting near the Canadian border Stormhaven is a Nordic region with fur trees, mountains and cold temperatures. Our winters are long and rough, but our horses are perfectly adapted to the climate. The nearest city is a good hour drive from us, but the isolation is not a hindrance. Our horses therefore have large pastures to roam and you can sing as loud as you want without worrying about bothering the neighbors. Since we are remote our staff member have the option of spending a few nights in our staff hut.
Our staff, around 13 large are all-rounders. When something brakes around here it is not easy calling someone from town and is usually fixed ourselves. Everyone helps each other out and personal differences are (usually) set aside or even embraced. We have specialized trainers and generalist to ensure the well being of our four legged companions.
It's not just horses that roam the Farm. We have a hand full of barn dogs, most being Icelandic Sheepdogs and our own companion dogs. They usually hang out where the action is and love attention. Our Icey's are always on top of everything and are the first to let us know when something is happening. We also have a pet Raven, named Darko. As a youngster he broke his wing and it grew back together crooked, so we adopted him.
And irony keeps striking in from of cats. Anna, the owner, has never been a cat lover, yet they seem to like her, or at least Stormhaven Farms. Stormhaven has moved a lot during the past decade and with it somehow the amount of cats has accumulated. Although Anna has never wanted any, once a cat decides Stormhaven is their home they belong to the family, get their shots like everyone else and receive proper food. Our oldest cat, Rumpelstiltskin has been with us since the beginning and is assumed to be near 20.
At Stormhaven we compete in shows occasionally (gaited horse shows), breed a few foals a year but we are primarily a training facility. We train horses for others, give lessons, hold clinics and are working on a special Academy, earning anyone interested in gaited horses the title Stormhaven Graduate.
