[ CTJL Monaco 2023, part I ] Twinbrook, Georgia, USA & Monte Carlo, Monaco, Europe - beginning of September 2023 Mia looked around at the bags and suitcases. She had checked everything at least four or five times now, but somehow something still felt like it was missing. “Everything all right?” Her dad looked at her from the door into her office where everything was placed until the departure. “I think so," Mia answered. “You look worried.” “No, I’m fine. I just… I feel like I’m missing something.” Mia looked at him with a frustrated smile. Peter let out a little laugh and planted a hand on her shoulder. “Have you made a list? And checked everything off - twice?” Mia couldn’t help but smile. Her dad did in fact know her too well sometimes. “I did. But..” “Let me see it,” Peter smiled and held out a hand to take the list from Mia. She gave it to him and sat down on the couch standing against the window-wall. Peter looked at the list, “ah, yeah, I see what you are missing”. Mia looked up, “what?”. “Ballerine”. Peter laughed. Mia couldn’t help but start to laugh as well, “Ha ha, funny dad”. Peter smiled at his daughter and took place in the office chair behind Mia’s desk. “Everything is going to be alright, just remember to breathe and have fun. You got this, and Ballerine got this. That horse will always have your back, don’t forget that.” Mia smiled, slightly. Her dad was right. She worried about something that wasn’t even a thing to worry about - at least not right now. [ CTJL Monaco 2023, part II ] Monte Carlo, Monaco, The French Riviera, Europe - September 2023 The first few days in Monaco had been very chill and easy for Mia and Ballerine. Mia had given Ballerine lots of time to settle in at the showground, had been out for lots of hand-walks and just done some light jogging-sessions. The show was set to start in only a few days and you could really tell how big it was by the number of horses and people running around now. Everywhere you looked there were at least ten horses being groomed, taken in or out for the stables, hand-walked or on their way to the warm up- and training arenas. Anne and Ellie had joined Mia and Ballerine for almost everything they had been doing, but a few times Anne had gone back to the hotel so Ellie could get a nap. The areas around the showground was slowly starting to take shape; food areas and shopping areas were popping up all over the place and a lot of different equestrian companies were attending with small shops - and of course, it was Monaco, so also a few more exclusive brands such as Gucci and Hermés had brought their equestrian collection to the show. Mia and Anne had spent an afternoon walking around and looked at the first few shops that had opened up already, but Mia knew they would be spending a lot more time during the next few days. The show schedule was packed with lots of different events; Polo matches, Opening and Closing ceremonies, a Charity Auction and a Mare & Foal Inspection with also an auction. Mia and Anne had agreed on going to the Polo matches with Ellie, and Mia was also going to attend the Opening Ceremony which also included a Luncheon. [ Continue reading here ]

[ An unexpected invitation ✉️ ] Twinbrook, end of September - October 6th, 2023 Mia had been home from Monaco for almost a week, and both her and Ballerine had been in need of a few days of rest after the return trip to Twinbrook. Olive had been taking good care of everything back home for the two weeks Mia had been away, and had also offered to be the driver on the trip down to Florida to pick Ballerine up. Mia had taken a few days ‘off’ before settling back into her ‘normal’ routines and went back to work. One day Olive suddenly came almost running into her office with Mia’s mail in her hands. “What?” Mia looked up from her desk and smiled awkwardly when seeing Olive’s face. A big, very excited smile filled the entire space of Olive’s face. “You got a letter..” Olive started and couldn’t keep the excitement in. “Yeah? I hope it’s a good one from seeing that look on your face,” Mia laughed. Olive handed her the letter, “it’s from the St. Claire Charity Foundation!”. Mia looked at Olive, feeling her eyes become stiffly locked on her while Olive’s face started to change to a more serious look. Mia looked down at the envelope, the big burgundy stamp staring back at her. Mia turned the letter around in her hands, closely reading the handwritten text on the front: Ms. Mia Celine Falkner. “What the…” [ Continue reading here ]

[ The St. Claire Charity Foundation 🥂🍾 ] New York City, October 7th, 2023 The Astoria was just as beautiful as always. It had been years since Mia had last been here, probably around 5 or 6 years now. The atmosphere was buzzing and everywhere she looked was people dressed up in beautiful dresses, tuxedos and suits. Mia smiled at her mom and followed her parents inside. They had already met quite a few people who knew her parents on their way in. A few of them whom Mia knew herself. “Oh honey! It’s so good to see you here!” A familiar voice sounded as a couple got towards them. Mia couldn’t keep her smile hidden as the woman reached in to give her a big hug. “How dare you not bring my granddaughter with you? It’s been so long since we have seen the two of you”, the woman gave Mia a big smile, then another hug. “I’m sorry Mrs. St. Claire, but..” “No no, you know the rules!” “I’m sorry, Lily,” Mia smiled. “So.. How is baby Ellie? Your mom told me you had brought her to Monaco for a competition a few weeks ago? How did it go, tell me everything!” Lily St. Claire grabbed Mia’s arm and dragged her across the room. Mia looked over her shoulder at her mom with an awkward smile and then gave in and followed along. -------- Looking at one of the incredible paintings hanging around on the walls, Mia felt like she was in a bubble for just a minute. Blocking out all the voices from all the people gave her room to just take a breath and calm down. She had never really been a big fan of these kinds of events even though she had attended her fair share of them while growing up. This event was big, glamorous and made Mia feel like being kind of an outsider somehow. She couldn’t really pinpoint what it was until she suddenly was brought out of her bubble by a big flash lighting up the entire room for a second. Mia looked over her shoulder and… saw him.. them… standing, posing before a photographer, all happy smiles and joy. Mia’s eyes were glued to them and she felt like she was just standing there staring at them for a moment until she was caught in the act of his ice blue eyes. [ Continue reading here ]

[ Leaving New York behind ] Twinbrook, Georgia - October 7th, 2023 Mia had been on the last flight out of New York to Bridgeport on friday night after leaving Logan on the side of the street in front of The Astoria on Park Avenue in New York. The flight had landed at Bridgeport International Airport just close to 3 AM, and about an hour later, Mia had pulled up in front of her house. Just as she had closed the front door behind her, Olive had come flying down the stairs, almost giving herself and Mia a heart attack. “What the heck are you doing here?!” Olive had looked like she had seen a ghost. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you!” “It’s 4 AM, what the heck is going on? You shouldn’t be back home until… I don’t even know what day it is now! And… oh wauw! Look at you!! You look beautiful!” Mia stepped out of her heels. She was still wearing her dress and heels that she had worn to the charity event a few hours before. “Thank you.. Go back to bed, we can talk about it tomorrow,” Mia said and looked at Olive standing on one of the lower steps of the staircase. “Ok… ok.. That might be a good idea…” Olive began to go upstairs but stopped and looked down at Mia, “You know what? No. We are going to talk about it now, and you can’t stop me!” Olive went down the stairs, her steps being all confident and serious, “You want pancakes while we talk?”. Mia couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. The young girl in front of her was not kidding around. “Fine.. whatever you say… but can I at least change to something more.. comfortable?” “Fine! But if you are not down in the kitchen in five minutes I’m going to drag you down the stairs! Just saying!” Mia quickly held up her hands in front of her and let Olive pass her before she started to walk up the stairs while slightly laughing, “I bet you will”.. [ Continue reading here ]
