spring in the air

April is almost half way gone and snow has finally started to melt away, revealing the icky, muddy ground and yellow grass that was hidden away from the Siberian winds, Finland being their nearest victim. Fortunately a few meadows surrounding Vredesholm receive enough sunlight during the day, so it's possible to get a few nice strides of canter on dry ground without suffering from the dust of the riding hall.

Rosanna feels happy. She is happy - at least for now. Vredesholm is growing steadily, Shrykos performed splendidly in the Waldemar show and now they're planning on covering Mette with a suitable stud to have the first foal of new Vredesholm - First foal bred by Rosanna Marie Lind. It was about time she left all her fears behind.

less or more a show jumper

Shrykos performed so brilliantly in the Waldemar show and Rosanna had never felt this motivated, nonetheless of the fact she didn't want to take part in the show at first. She got immensely pissed at Andreas (who enrolled her and Shrykos without consent) for not respecting her past and what she'd gone through, but she understood Shrykos couldn't just stand around. The gelding demanded show arenas to conquer, even small ones, if not bigger.

That's why Rosanna decided to continue shows with Shrykos, at least a few ones. While she could always hire someone to ride him, the whole stable knew Shrykos and she had bonded well and the gelding worked the best under her. Your past doesn't always determine your future.

a new friend

Yesterday was a special day in Vredesholm - We got our first horse client for our training centre!

Novocaine is a five-year-old Wielkopolski stallion. He's a dawning athlete, but has started his career moderately: The most he knows is cantering under saddle, which his owner taught him only some months ago. Novocaine will be staying with us at least until the end of summer, hopefully even longer, and Andreas and Margaux will be working together to figure out what disciplines would suit him.

Novocaine's owner told us any positive experience is experience, so we're being hopeful he could even enter the Mayflowers show. Novocaine won't be ready for dressage or show jumping yet, but we're thinking he could enter endurance - Even though he doesn't have that much muscle yet, he's in a nice basic shape and any competition experience will be good for him.

Today we let him explore the outdoor arena and he pretty much free lunged himself. Novocaine's very mobile and kept cantering around and flashing a nice trot we hope to see under saddle one day. Additionally, we'll need to have him gene tested as his owner suspects he might be quite a package - Novo's assumed to be a sooty chestnut and both of his parents are tobiano, so chances are he might be a homozygous tobiano.

He needs to grow out that silly mane someone has cut him, though.
