| - WINTER WEATHER - |

= THE FACILITY =
While Soda Springs Equestrian ("SSE") has always been the one and only facility within our business, we have in the later years acquired another facility as we felt the need to expand in a growing business. We found a lovely hillside on which the old farm "Melford" has been renovated and turned into a high-standard show jumping facility. SSE is head office for our business, and all sales and breedings are done here, and Melford is where our active showjumping team resides. The facility is simpler and smaller than the grand SSE, but it is closer to all the competition grounds we travel to and therefore allows for less travel, and more rest for our horses. The facility consists of a stable with room for 27 horses, an indoor arena, an outdoor arena, a horse walker, 10 paddocks and 10 large pastures. SSE's best jumper prospects are transferred to Melford, where Mandy McAvoy and her team train them for competition and sale. While at Melford, the horses are part of the SSE Jumpers competition team and are entered in shows on a regular basis.
= EQUINE SPOTLIGHT =
The SSE horses are premium show jumpers. When competing at high-level show jumping events, having a horse built and bred for that particular use is paramount. Even though the rider is the coordinator and problem solver of the act, it is crucial that the horse is strong and willing enough to take the rider over the jumps. The better qualities the horse possesses, the better will the equipage perform in the competition. This may seem obvious, but this is usually what separates first place from second place. Our active team currently consists of 18 horses, where 6 of these are upcoming sales horses. There are a few retirees among the horses at Melford, and they now enjoy their days grazing out on the big pastures, keeping the other horses company.
= STAFF AT MELFORD =
When Melford was ready to move into, the staff most concentrated around the competition part of SSE joined Mandy to the new facility. The staff currently consists of a group of 5, and together they keep the yard on track. General stable work includes feeding, riding and lounging, letting horses out and in from the paddocks and walker, and keeping the place nice and tidy. Accommodation consists of a newly built two-story house with nice apartments for all the staff to live in, housing 8 rooms. Not the biggest team, but a very efficient and professional one where we all work together to aim for the top and keep developing. |

Welcome to my new album, everyone! I thought I'd kick this off with a new edit, but I cannot promise a lot of those until next summer as I'm very busy with writing my master's degree and life in general. But I simply had to create an album so I can maybe sneak in some time for posting pictures and updates from time to time. So do expect a lot of earlier edits, and perhaps I'll add some pics of Melford as a build along (as it's not fully finished, hehe..). STAFF INTRODUCTION:- SIMONA FABIANA SCAVINO - The young Italian girl Simona is our first, and currently only, working student. She got in touch with Mandy after they became acquainted at a show almost a year ago, and she asked whether or not there was room for yet another staff member to join the team. Conveniently, Mandy was in the middle of organizing the new system for Melford, with most of the other staff staying behind at SSE, Mandy needed someone new to join her to Melford. Simona has been riding a lot back in Tuscany where she comes from, but with little possibility to ride on any professional level. Joining Mandyโs team would open a new door for her, being let into the professional sport and allowing her to learn on an international level. It is a whole new world for her, tagging along at huge shows and grooming for Mandy in Grand Prix classes. Simona helps with flat riding while at home, and does a lot of general tasks at the yard. She has no plan for the near future and will stay at Melford for now, but it would be exciting for us if her stay at Melford would give her even more exciting chances and job openings in the future - unless we give her those opportunities ourselves, that is! She is here seen on SSE The Bond Girl, and ยซBonnieยป has quickly become her favorite. |
