There are parts of this world that you can only venture to on horseback (and, well, maybe also on foot), meaning some of the world's most breathtaking views can be captured on camera right from the saddle. For this workshop, I'd like you to take photos from your rider's perspective. They can be on vacation and can capture beautiful, exotic vistas on camera (Instagram, anyone?); or perhaps they might share a picture of that hidden meadow they ride to when times are stressful; that early view of the day's sunrise during their weekly hack; or maybe they want to take the GoPro out while jumping the XC course. No matter the subject, this photography challenge is all about experimenting with perspective.
You'll need to use the camera mode for this workshop to move the camera right up to where your rider's eyes are. We want to see what they see! Though, selfies are OK too - in which case, you'll need to move the camera right up to where the phone is. Here's some quick tips on how to use camera mode (for any newbies who may not know):
Keys
TAB: activates camera mode
Q: shifts the camera down
E: shifts the camera up
W: moves camera forward
S: moves camera backward
A: moves camera left
D: moves camera right
Camera Mods (recommended)
Camera mods aim to resolve the limitations of the game's original camera mode. They permit you to get lower to the ground, fix spazzing-out with high rise apartments, and generally let you zoom in much closer than the original camera. Some, if not all, also remove the "drift" that happens when you pan the camera around - making it much easier to get just the shot you want. Here are a couple I found that you may want to try for this workshop. (Note: These are not required, and you should only use them at your own risk. Always back up before installing any new mods!)
AikeaGuinea's Mod
GreenPlumbBobLover's Mod
Editing (optional)
Editing isn't required for this workshop, however if you like to edit, I encourage you to get creative with your photos. Use social media interfaces/mockups, camera or video-cam interfaces, little details like that! The skies the limit on how detailed you want to get with your edits. Just have fun with whatever you create.
Participation Prize
Mini pose set (for horse). Check back for pictures!
Deadline
May 31st, 2018.
Entry Requirements
Easy! At least one photo that fits the challenge. Also, please tell us a little bit about what's happening in your picture. Where is your character? What are we looking at? Just little details that might fill in any story gaps that the picture doesn't fill.
Good luck and have fun! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
