Hi all,
Would there be interest in a Showing Club?
It's a discipline that's very popular over here in Australia and I'd like to help bring it into the Equus community.
Some info can be found here.
Some pictures illustrating the overall appearance can be viewed here, here, and here.
A video of a class can be watched here.
My grand plan is for this club to include:
A registry
Monthly or Bi-monthly Competitions (including prizes!), for members and non-members.
A newsletter or 'horse of the month' where we interview members on their beautiful pixel ponies.
To make this possible, I would need a few helping hands:
A couple of volunteers to help run this thing - organise/judge shows, take over if someone goes AWOL, etc.
Content creators for prizes
Sponsors
You! Yes, you, dear reader! Like this post and/or comment if you support this idea or have any questions!
Horses and ponies are judged on their movement, manners, conformation, and turnout. Placings go to those that are 'excellently presented and give the appearance of
being a pleasure to handle, watch and ride.'
Show classes are held typically on a grass surface, but may also be held in an indoor arena. There are conformation, lead rein, and flat classes.
There are several categories dependant on the height of the horse. These are:
Show Pony: not exceeding 14hh
Show Galloway: over 14hh and not exceeding 15hh
Show Hack: over 15hh
If the horse is of thicker build, its may also be categorised and shown as a 'hunter', as opposed to a regular pony, galloway, or hack.
Usual show types are regular to fine builds, whereas hunter types are more substantial.
'A ‘Show Hunter’ should possess more substance than the modern ridden Show Horse but it
must be emphasised they should be quality animals.
A quality ‘Show Hunter’ must create the impression that it is capable of hunting over a variety of terrain.'
Hunters still fall under the pony, galloway, and hack height categories, so a hunter class would be titled Show Hunter Galloway or Show Hunter Hack.
Suggestions for other disciplines are welcome as well.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
